If things break just right, Saturday could be one of the most costly days in recent ACC history.
The conference is trying to establish itself as a national factor. There's a way to do that this season, if things go well in the remaining games. But all it takes is one weekend to torpedo commissioner John Swofford's plans.
Here's the doomsday scenario for Saturday:
Saturday could be one of the most costly days in recent ACC history. A few upsets, and the conference's national reputation could be left in tatters, with almost two months remaining in the regular season.

That's an ok doomsday scenario, but to me, the real doomsday is Duke winning the Coastal Division!
The ACC is chit, plain and.simple. we need to leave. It's not going to get any better.
This would not "torpedo John Swofford's plans." It would fulfill his every hope. The ACC WANTS to be horrible in football. They think it conveys academic prestige. Swofford's fondest hope is for FSU, Clemson and Miami to be permanently brought back in line with NCSU and Wake. This would truly make the ACC the "anti-SEC" that Swofford and the ACC powers hope for.
I have a very hard time believing this is his mindset.
This....dog crap football conference.
Duke winning the coastal would be hilariously awesome
GT is terrible. The Midddle Tennessee RB ran for over 200 yards. Clemson will definitely outscore them.
Yeah, can see ND beating UM, doubt it's a blowout.
All we have to do is cook all our own taters, and let the rest of the conference go 2-6 in bowl games, as per usual. The only thing to get Swofford off the schnide would be his funeral. We're stuck in the ACC for a long time. Make them sorry they ever took us in. I yearn for the days when we beat everybody they had to throw at us by 40.
I am pretty sure Swofford knows how to use a calculator.
Yeah, me too. I don't even think Swofford CONSCIOUSLY believes it. But underneath it all, I think there is an anti-football attitude on Tobacco road. They think great football turns a school into Auburn, and Auburns are unwelcome in our wine-and-cheese conference. They think it makes us a smarter conference if our football teams suck.

#1 is valid. The ACC needs us to run the table and to look heads and shoulders better than everyone else in the ACC from here on out.
That means not playing down to the level of the competition to any extent like last week.
2. Somewhat agree. it would look good for the ACC if clemson went 11-1 and it probnably gets an at large BCS berth. Top 10, brings lots of fans, big 10 sucks, etc.
3. Invalid: The new aCc team whips a current team that already lost 51-13- so what.
#4-5 who cares? Vt already lost to 2 big east teams-it is better for the ACc for them to suck in conference this year. As to UNc not being eligible, who cares? no one in the coastal will be in our class: whether UNC is in first place with 2-3 losses or we play a team with 4 losses it does not matter.
it will no different then when the Miss st or Ark teams that sucked show up in the SEc championship game.
Beating a crappy Ark team in 2006 did not hurt UF in any way.

For sure he has figured out in-dealing. If that is a button on a calculator, then, yes.
With Swofford' experience in pork-barreling, he should get a job in Washington soon and be out of our collective hair.
Anytime a conference has only two ranked teams I suppose most weeks contain some type of doomsday scenario, but have we really reached the point of ACC-bashing that sportswriters are now preemptively bashing the league for what might (but probably won't) happen?
1 and 2 WILL NOT happen which makes the rest irrelevant. It would help the conference if that team way down south pulled of an upset.
That article lost me when they said Miami is "on the road back to prominence". Hahahahahahaha. Based on what exactly? Wins over NCST and BC? That is hilarious. Did that guy watch the K State game? And God help them if anything happens to Duke Johnson...
My wish list:
1. FSU win. Derpy derp
2. Clemson win. Dabo will lose "it" - whatever it is - at some point. And GT needs a real coach. Johnson sucks. That offense is a joke. His recruiting is a joke. No kid seeking a future in the NFL is going there anymore. GT is so much better and deserves so much more in a head coach.
3. Let's go Irish! I'm tired of people in Miami acting like UM is all that because while completely ignoring the abomination that is their defense. I'd root for Miami to lose regardless.
4. VT over UNC. F UNC. Just F them.
5. Does anybody give 2 shats about anyone else in the ACC? The answer is "No." So there shouldn't be a 5th point to make.
If Swofford knows how to use a calculator I wish he had used it before signing that @#$@#$ TV contract.
ACC doesn't give a damn about football....simple as that.
More specifically, it will never produce the revenue needed to compete with SEC/BIg 12/Pac 12 schools with future playoff revenue/TV contracts.
But FSU fans just need to shut up and accept FSU's lot in the future because FSU's leaders painted us into a corner with this conference.
Not looking good so far
HA, I must've missed it earlier. I would've said, "Let's go, Army!" But I'm saying it now. ACC (Minus FSU) Doomsday!
Pretty much happened, and yes, were doomed with this shitty conference (which we cant even dominate)
Yeah pretty sure the ACC doomsday happened. But no one cares at the ACC headquarters cause this isn't basketball.
