Trickett is an excellent coach and recruiter..... Just like Graham Harrell was an excellent quarterback AT Texas Tech and Colt Brennan was an excellent quarterback AT Hawaii. I don't think trick is a lazy recruiter or a bad coach I just don't think he fits at Florida State and with what Jimbo wants to do. Now why does Jimbo keep them around that's the 1,000,000 dollar question who knows maybe he has pictures of him that he doesn't want out?? <-- (sarcasm)
No offense, but this "rational explanation" is utterly devoid of substance. Why do you say he's a good recruiter? What do you mean by that? Why do you say he doesn't fit with what Jimbo wants to do? And why in the hell or you comparing him to Harrell and Brennan!? What's the analogy?
The Future is Now.
He is saying that they fit a system. He says trickett is teaching zone while Fisher wants to run power. He is saying that is why trickett was a good fit for wvu and rich rod.
This is exactly correct. With all the bashing and wondering what the deal with Trickett is I wanted to compare it to a situation most college football fans could relate to. Just another point of view to consider. Not that it fixes our problems though....
Pretty simple analogy. They all fit well within the framework of their system. When taken out of said system, they don't appear as effective.
It's on Jimbo. Trick is a bad fit and isn't even in the ballpark of producing results commensurate with his pay. It's on Jimbo as to why he's still here.
There are not enough good Jimmies and Joes in the ol position group. It is not recruiting. It is getting players to come play for him. Where I disagree is that while I think Trickett is a good ol coach, he is no better than 15-20 other college ol coaches. If we was we would have better ol's on the field.
IMO the why does not matter. The fact the question needs to be asked means a change needs to be made. Can Trickett get enough high quality Jommies and Joes to play for him if he goes to another school?
Who cares? It only matters that he cannot get it done at FSU. That is an issue for a potential future employer to worry about.
Trickett would be a perfect fit coaching at a service academy.
I disagree with your assessment regarding ol talent coming in to play for Trickett. Compared to other position groups it has been poor. It is Jimbo's responsibility because he is head coach. However, it is Trickett's fault because it his position group. If Jimbo was the issue the whole team would resemble the ol group
If your boss wants to run power then your learn to successfully block in a manner that you can run power. If Trickett cannot adapt that is on him. It also means that he is not a great ol coach because a great ol coach could successfully adapt. However, while I think that scheme issue has merit IMO you are overestimating the ol talent he has brought in as a whole since he has been here.

He should say that then if his proclaiming to be offering a rational explanation.
It was rational to everyone except you brother. It is all good. No need for being that way. We are supposed to welcome people to the board my man.
I didn't say it wasn't rational, I said it lacked substance. I like my information to be chock full o' information.
But, I didn't intend on being rude. I'm going to give you and HIM upvotes. No hard feelings fgeffon.
BTW, I do agree that it's a bad fit when your OL coach is teaching zone and your OC wants to run power. Just wanted his analysis.

Napoleon no need to apologize I don't ever get my internet feelings hurt, actually I don't even have internet feelings. This post wasn't about substance it was a rational way of looking at why Tricket doesn't seem to be working at FSU. Just something different than the bashing and knee jerk anger responses on the board. I have a different perspective of football than most is I try to look at both sides of the situation. Basically we have to remember that Tricket was a Bowden hire and Jimbo decided to retain him because of the comfort level. At the end of the day coaches hire assistants they know they can trust. When coaches go outside their circle its a big risk. I am convinced that the line uses zone blocking because that's what JIMBO wants and he probably feels RT is one of the best at coaching zone blocking. The issue is that RT has never stressed pass bro or blitz pick up during practice. He is dead set on developing run blocking and hopes to build pass pro off of that. In Jimbos offense we are much more balanced than other teams RT has coached for and his weaknesses are begining to show. An argument could be made that it has been our run blocking and especially short yardage blocking that is the issue, well that is a result of the types of players Jimbo wants dont mesh with the way RT coaches how to run block. If you just watch our line for 5 minutes you can see we don't get to the point of attack fast enough and our guys never know how or when to switch off. The golden rule of blitz pickup is inside pro over outside. We constantly allow inside pressure and the pocket collapses. This is a direct result of improper teaching. At WV these were never issues as the pocket was always moving and they had several Chris Thompson like players who were great at cutback running and finding the whole in the zone. So in summary RT is great at what he is good at if that makes sense. I hope this was enough substance for you....
Your first post was fine. Crystal clear, plenty of substance. Read it. Understood it. Agreed with it. Well done.
All I'll add is I think we should run a man blocking scheme. All rushing attacks have elements of zone but exclusive ZBS seems tough to run in college. Obviously some kids need time to grow physically but I think you can plug a kid into a power scheme quicker than a ZBS.
