They had 4 strengths in 2012: Ball security, great defense, great special teams, and good at take aways. They take major hits in ALL of those areas. They lose a CHUNK of their D, lose their NFL tight end and Gillislee, and lose Sturgis. Why do people think that they will be so good in 2013?
They also have no playmakers at WR and a suspect at best QB
GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!
People underrate the value of Mike Gillislee. He was their offense last year. without him they lose at least 2 more games.

I want Miami to beat them SRS
(But I want Miami to win less than 7)
Because most tv commentary is based on assumption and reiteration of already held beliefs. Spurrier and Urban bought Florida a "perennial power" moniker. And last season Muschamp bought himself out of the "Potential Zook" category. So now until they get exposed they are "back to being a perennial power"
How about we actually show up to play them next yr before we begin to cast aspersions upon a team that pretty much whooped us for 3 qtrs.
Bingo. We had this same thread before the UF game... and we forgot to show up and play.... and there is no reason Jimbo should have earned anyone's confidence after this last year and his tendency to keep things close vs. teams we severely out-gun
I have NEVER rooted for the Hurricanes before. Until this year. I hope they bring their . . . swag . . . or whatever it is they call it and crush the freaking lizards.
The Future is Now.
It will be tough for them to get those bounces two years in a row. That said....
They played solid football and were well-coached last year. UF didn't give it away and created game changing turnovers. They over-achieved.
We played sloppy, inconsistent ball and were largely not well-coached. We turned the ball over and failed to generate turnovers. We under-achieved, never played a single game of 60 minute football and kept undermanned opponents in games.
In our game vs UF we failed to adjust to their jumbo package. They couldn't block us straight up and knew they couldn't air it out either. So they went big knowing running was their only shot and got the ball to their TEs. They shortened the game and played it safe. We fought back but routinely pissed away our momentum with sloppy play and turnovers. Stoops never solved their big alignment and we got wore out.
That game was a microcosm of the season. Coulda, shoulda, didn't.
I believe we had the horses to blow UF out of Doak. Hopefully we learned lesssons from last year. No more turnovers. Create them. When you have a lead go for the killshot. I think the new faces on staff could really help forge a mentally tougher team.

uf's whole season was based on good defense, good special teams, and protecting the ball. but it was their outstanding turnover luck that made them. uf beat south carolina by 4 td's and had less than 200 yards of offense. fsu was winning with 10 mins to go in the game despite already handing them the ball 3-4 times. you just can't turn it over 5 times (4 by EJ) against a good team and expect to win.
if uf is an average team in turnover ratio (say ranked around 40 or so) they lose 4 games. on the flip side, if fsu is average in turnover ratio, they have 1 loss at the most, granted our schedule was absurdly easy. but uf was among the best in the country in this category (top 10, maybe top 5) and that's why they got 11 wins. we were ranked around 100th.
there were 2 games where uf didn't dominate their opponent in turnovers. they lost both of those games. one in embarrassing fashion.

Um, we had them beat in the 4th until EJ have the game away.

How about I don't play on the team, and am a fan on a message board speculating about our rivals upcoming season.
I agree with this. We held the talent advantage, not by a large margin though. But they won the coaching battle and played far more disciplined. No excuses for that one. They whooped our tails. We deserved it if we couldn't get our shit together for the biggest FSU-UF game in a decade.
