I don't buy the 7 year business, and here's why.
At the end of Bobby Bowden's tenure, there weren't very many recruits that wanted to come play for FSU.
Florida was having success, and so were a lot of teams we were going head to head on recruits.
So you can't pawn 4 years in a program that was spiraling out of control on Coach Trickett. You just can't.
Second, you can have a good recruiting year, but those guys take a few years to develop and thus you have to rely on JUCOs.
Third, last year our offensive line injuries were MASH on steroids, and we never had any continuity, thus being forced to bump players from left to right and so on and so forth. That doesn't work for a unit that must be cohesive. Can't blame that on Trickett, no matter how badly you want to.
Fourth, Menelik Watson was coached by Trickett, Josue is a beast that is NFL bound and developed by Trickett, Tre Jackson is a beast, NFL bound and developed by Trickett. Cam Erving has never played the position and learned on the fly, taught by Trickett.
You can't blame systematic break downs on the position coach. I know it's a bone you're fond of, but you have to find something else to chew on.
The man develops NFL players.
The OL breakdowns this year were systematic in nature and involved RBs, EJ, and play calling.
This year was a vast improvement, next year they'll be the bomb.
And we'll get the guys we want. You watch.

Not that I love Trickett, but Greek has fully answered this question. It is not the OL that gets you the yard. It is the whole offense, play call and all. No islands.
I think that's probably true.
Nonetheless, I'd like to know if it's true that Trickett dishes only criticism and not praise. That would suck.
I totally disagree that in some golden yesteryear, better, less-spoiled kids responded well to negative coaching, but being encouraging to toddlers somehow ruined that. That's ridiculous. And the same people who long for that brutish yesteryear nonetheless admit that positive coaching now gets good results! Isn't that progress?
Cam Erving. Otherwise, please continue.
"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
HAHA, I'll correct that. Apologies to our Cam. Brain fart.
We are deficient as compared to the rest of the team regarding top to bottom talent on the ol.
Can he coach? Sure, so can lots of other ol coaches.
We had the Bowden issue for every other position group. Yet the dl, for example, has exponentially more talent than our OL.
Look at last year. we needed 4, got 2 and Glauser was a huge bust.
So this year we need 7 and do not have a prayer of getting 7 quality ol commits.
We may get Tunsil. Then Golsen will probably decommit. He needs to have 3-4 quality ol's which are not yet committed in the hopper. Who are those 4?
As to responding to coaching, the fact of the matter is that other teams very effectively convince kids that Trickett is going to cuss and scream at them for 4 years.
That is why he has trouble getting enough quality ol commits to come here. Not because bobby was coach 3 years ago.
Florida did not have success last year and they cleaned our clocks in ol recruiting. we went 0 for Florida.
I could care less about Trickett's methods. However, his inability to get enough quality ol commits to come play for HIM has held this team back since jimbo has been coach.
The highest paid ol coach in the country should have been fired or reduced in pay after last year's performance both on the field and in regard to the ol class. Just for that year. However, We could go year, after year, after year....
Trickett ain't getting it done and this team being held back as a result.

They are only taking 5-6 OL this class. I don't know where you get the 7 number. What you think they should take and what Jimbo wants are different.
Klepal - I know he will not play, but again, you can't blame Trickett for everything under the moon.
There are your 5-6, not counting the JUCO Elemuonor who was FSU bound until his credits issue.
Tell me who else they should be recruiting, and who should be coming here.
They just need to keep getting 4-5 per year, but it is difficult as these guys want instant playing time.
We've had more than one good year out of 7.
I don't think that's true at all. He's publicly praised players in the past.
We had a bad game against VT and missed three 3rd and 1's against UF and GT and we can't run?
CT averaged 7.5, Devonte 6.5, Wilder 5.9 and Lonnie 5.8 yards per carry. Unless 75% of the rushing yards came against Murray and Savannah State, statistics prove this theory inaccurate.
And some teams like VT absolutely sold out against the run and slanted and blitzed into to the teeth of the play like one of our coaches were point shaving. It's why so many tackles around the line of scrimmage against us are not coming from jerseys numbered in the 90s, but rather single digit, teens and 20s.
Greek interesting point on Gran. I know he is an elite recruiter and I'll give him a pass on last years rb's due to youth, but I saw his talented soph's, still have too many missed assignments in crucial moments. But skill guys are cool, so let's blame the nameless fat guys.
LOL! This is awesome.
It's so good to see opinions on Rick Trickett finally changing for the better.
The guy has no business on this staff.

You've been telling us for years how good our OL is. Yet everyone knows what they see every Saturday.
We played nobody this year. We played two half decent defenses, and they shut our run game down.
Playcalling may have something to do with it... fine. I will take Eddie Gran's track record of coaching NFL backs though, so I won't blame him. You go ahead though.
Trickett is awesome. Yadayada.
Knock it off.
We need 7. It was 6-7 during the summer. As our possibilities have reduced in number, so did our target number.
Is Elemounor going to be here? No? Then he does not count unless he will find a way to be on the team next year. And Kleipal was hurt.
If we need 7 we should have 10 lined up.
We have been dealing with this on the ol since Trickett has been here. What kind of year in and out results should be expected from the highest paid ol coach?
Much better than the results at FSU. It is that simple in the end. We are not getting what we have paid for by having the highest paid ol coach.
Will we have a good ol next year? If we don't then the rep of Trickett being a good ol coach is a load of bunk . And it only will have taken us 7 years to get there
Gran's best-most productive RB right now will be the lowest of the draft picks(out of CT, Freeman and Wilder). So developing pros is more about recruiting at the RB position and less about performance and dependability.
And btw, averaged 3.9 Ypc against Texas A&M. So contrary to popular belief, they don't run for 350 in every game they play.
Our OL recruiting has been abysmal for several years. How some posters can't see that, I don't know
I'm not sitting here bashing anyone, but, say our line kills it next year, thank a converted DT, an unexpected Juco, a Coley save outta NJ, and a late offer OG.
I don't see this as a method of solid OL continuity.
Our OL recruiting has sucked for several years. That's the way I see it. Not blaming anyone just a fact.
Anyone wants to disagree I'd be willing to hear it. Tomorrow. In heading out.
Figured this thread would be heated. My two cents is that I think the line has been solid except for last season which I blame on injuries. I place more blame on the play calling than performance. Penetration is a killer versus the zone stretch, when we've played capable Dlines or when facing obvious run blitzes, Jimbo and/or EJ didnt adjust to it.
As for the Oline recruiting, its been underwhelming and Im not sure how people are disagreeing with that. Even though I think they have played well, we should have never been in position to have two true sophmores, a converted DT and a Juco with minimal football experience as starters. Other than Bobby Hart I wouldnt feel comfortable with any of the backups getting meaningful PT. Josh, Chris and Tom would be the ones to know for sure but to me the lack of depth is troubling when you consider the time Jimbo and Trickett have been at FSU.
Some solid stuff in this post
But the main thing about being solid, is like you mention.... its usually only against the Duke's, Wake Forest and Savannah States of the world
FSU also has the kind of run game that is hit or miss
We either see a huge 56 or 89 yard run, and then a couple for minus or little yardage in crucial moments of the game
As for the point people make about injuries killing FSU last year, that is true.... and they would have crippled FSU this season too had it been a problem again.... meanwhile LSU loses a few guys, including a first round LT... and still they manage to run the ball well against a much stiffer schedule of defenses faced
LSU had 42 yds rushing vs Florida
LSU had 135 yds rushing vs Alabama most on 3 carries.
LSU had 182 yds rushing vs Auburn
148 yds rushing vs Mississippi Stae
306 total yards vs Arkansas.
Solid effort, but utter BS.

And FSU had -15 against a potential below 500 VT
I'd take those numbers over FSU's everyday and twice on saturdays
Also only had 125 yards on NC States 60th ranked rush defense, and a pathetic second half for most of that came in the first half
Its not utter BS, you are just the biggest Trickett supporter I have ever seen simply cause you are a homer that looks for any excuse possible
Losing a first round LT like LSU did and a few top notch RB's here and there will hurt you against teams like Bama and UF on the road
Make up your damn mind.
"meanwhile LSU loses a few guys, including a first round LT... and still they manage to run the ball well against a much stiffer schedule of defenses faced"
We already established that NCSwas blitzing entire second half and VT sold out. Had we run downhill against VT, we'd have 300 yards rushing. UF was all on EJ.
No sir. You're just a Trickett hater and can't see past your hate. You don't see me defending the special teams or RB play.
Have you seen me defend the play calling?
You're barking up the wrong tree.
I agree that we have had a few misses on the recruiting front. Their is no need to ever have to bring in a class of 8-9 due to lack of numbers like we did two classes ago. You can never prepare for the injuries we endured last year, but we should have had a little more veteran depth. I'm not sure who is completely to blame for some of the holes up front, but I would think Bobby is most responsible and let's see if Jimbo has learned from past mistakes. I think he knows that great programs start up front on both sides of the ball.
And as far as not getting the 5 stars, for every big name that doesn't fulfill their potential( Matt Patchan, Nick Allajan, Darron Rose, Matt Hardrick, Antawn Greenlee-injured but was Very stiff and mechanical) there are an Andrew Datko, Rodney Hudson and Tre Jackson that came in with much less fanfare and Played at a high level.
As for this class I don't think we should take 7. 4-5 are fine, as long as we get a pure OT. And then take another 4-5 next year to maintain depth while getting a little separation between classes. Tunsil is a big fish. He appears to be loving the SEC like the rest of the country and rightfully so, but we have a few cards up our sleeve in his recruitment so if we can't pull him away, it will be a disappointment.
I know one of the offensive linemen. After talking to him, I think Coach Trick uses the marine corp bootcamp style, he tears a kid down, works him and then rebuilds him, teaches him and gives him confidence, old school if you will. I know before the season started he told the guys they were capable of being the best ol in he had coached. I think he believes in this ol and more importantly, they believe in him. Another player I know, told me he thinks as many as three of these guys will go 1st round. As others have said, o lines need experience as a unit. I think they got a lot of that this year. I am expecting great things out of them next year.

2010 was it.
by good year I mean an ol than does not humiliate itself against good dl's.
This is not a 1 or 2 year issue. This is an issue of being able to maintain something we all think will happen (the ol being at least above avg next year) but have not seen yet.
If we have 3 1st rounders on the ol then it should be a hell of a lot better than it is right now and we really should question the coaching.
Dont worry, Canolee (Who is a nice guy) was telling us all how well the ol played last year at uf with 95 yds offense. That was 2 days after Jimbo said the ol was dominated by UF.
There is entertainment value to the weekly analysis although in all fairness he has not been so pollyanna about the ol this year.
However, as to the 2011 UF game, I choose to believe the head coach
There is jumping the shark and then there is jump a school of sharks.
Trickett must have pics of Jimbo with farm animals-keeping him here could cost Jimbo his job especially if the next dc does not do a bang up job.
Well, you (who is also a nice guy) have been telling us how everything sucks.
I can break it down for you in minute detail, but you will never accept anything, but continue to argue.
You do not know what it is you are speaking about on this subject, so just refrain.
A 236 lead ( a FB lead through the 6 hole, name it as you want), can be perfectly executed with the FB blocking the OLB tot he outside, but the RB in his impatience tries to run to the outside of block and gets tackled for no gain or loss.
Looks like block was missed, because the RB was undisciplined.
This crap happens over and over again, especially in the stretch and read plays.
I will use your words against you "However, as to the 2011 UF game, I choose to believe the head coach".
However, as to OL Coaching, I choose to believe the head coach.
