Anyone who thinks Trickett has been something other than a disappointment I just cant discuss football with. It's a huge strike against Jimbo paying him the most of anyone in America to recruit and coach below par and going above and beyond "tough coaching" the entire time as well.
Its at least not nearly as bad as it was
Ill never forget being on Nole Digest during year 2 of Trickett
Me, DC Noles, Willy Dees ( formerly knows as WDH1984 over there ) and a few others ( literally only a handful of us ) started the Rick Trickett bashing cause his OL sucked against good DL's and it was beyond frustrating
And the excuses people came up with were not only extremely delusional, but a very large number of FSU fans called him the best OL coach in the business
Thankfully, those days are over
Only around 2% of this fan base still likes him these days
Rick is a cool guy, but sadly he is long past his prime and the simple fact is most kids would rather not play for him.... and other programs know about his ways and use it against him on the recruiting trail all of the time
Its borderline amazing how he is the highest paid assistant on staff and Im starting to wonder if this mass exodus of coaches might have a little something to do with that

By cool what do you mean? Apparently he is pretty funny but in a creepy old dude who was in 'Nam way I bet. He sucks, treats people like animals and cant coach for crap. No cool.
We can only go to that well so many times...
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or it may last a year. But eventually, it will subside. If i quit, however it will last forever.
Well by cool I mean, he is like my father and well... me pretty much
I have known and been around men like him my whole life, the same reasons you don't like him are similar reasons to why you don't like me
Jarheads are a certain breed that most won't be able to handle on a regular basis
I do agree his teaching methods are too old school, this is why I can't be in the same room as my father for more than 15 mins without all hell breaking loose
But overall Trick is the kind of man I have the utmost respect for away from the field and would probably love cracking inappropriate jokes with while crushing beers
But I have long thought he was the wrong man for this job for so many reasons
I had a different philosophy for applying my jarhead ways to teaching, I use yelling positives at kids as a way to encourage them and build their self esteem and it worked better on todays youth in my experience
People like Trickett and my dad for example, are like you said... that old school vietnam type, and they use beating you down as a way to crush you in order to build you back up
Most kids today are too spoiled to respond to this method, and just stay down and quit on you
This is the main reason I saw Tricketts ineffectiveness so early on
Lot of people at FSU lean on Trickett and his wife at times. I know the players also see him as a coach and a father figure. He can definitely wear you out, but he's also the guy people turn to when things get tough.

100% Dead on point with this. You can't coach this way anymore. Most players will quit on you before you get the chance to build them up. It is a much softer world they paint for these kids today ( athletes and non-athletes. ) You can thank stuff like participation trophies, and no kid left behind ( no kid gets ahead ) methods.
Right now we have... Golson, Denson and Hoefeld. Assuming we land Tunsil, Kirkland and Kerr is probably a best case scenario with the recruits on the board right now. It's a full OL with a hybrid Kerr that could develop into a LT or be a big TE. Ideally, they will all take a redshirt to develop. Recruiting is fluid and there's always a chance someone could pop up but I would be thrilled with this class on the OL
LT - Tunsil
LG - Denson
C - Hoefeld
RG - Kirkland
RT - Golson
TE - Kerr
23,000 dolphins are killed every year in Japan. For pest control. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KRD8e20fBo
No doubt, there is no denying his likability imo
I personally would love to play for somebody like him cause his putdowns would just make me laugh under my breath for Im sure they are hilarious when take into context, but I also understand why so many kids today won't even dare to try and play for him... sadly enough
Bullshit, bullshit, and more bullshit.
Being tough on the players is not a problem as long as they get equally loud praise when they do things right. It is only when the verbal lashings are the only thing they get that they quit on you.
Kids see through bullshit either way, positive or negative. Keep it honest and real.
Once again, Trickett is not an island. He does what the offensive coordinator asks of him.
Nothing more, nothing less.
responding with this is just hilarious
You know more about my father than me ? or the military ? interesting
Equally loud praise ? do you know anything about Trickett ? giving loud praise, especially during practice is the last thing Trickett is known for
Also in terms of recruiting this doesn't matter, its all about perception and the perception is Trickett is an a**hole
That and that alone is why he struggles to sign elite prospects, the truth doesn't even matter for its all about what a kid choose to believe and if he is told something false and believes it ? then
Keep trying dude
The fact you still defend Trickett is just crazy, enjoy that island my friend.... soon you will be all by yourself on it
If a kid or parent cant handle trickett then they have no business playing in the Acc.
Since Trickett has been at FSU he has signed/worked with 28 OL ( 12 have already flaked out or left the program prematurely and this number will grow this offseason as usual..... think about that.... almost half of them flaked out... and this isn't even counting guys like Foose, Lovelady, Pettis and Faircloth who simply aren't FSU material )
So far 3 of them have been drafted in the NFL ( 6 years.... 28 kids.... 3 have moved on to the NFL... 2 have made gameday rosters.... both of them are on the injured reserve )
That is a failure of both evaluation and development
Got any excuses for these facts atgreek ?
A late 2nd rounder, a 5th rounder and late 7th rounder who is on a practice squad right now

Yeah no doubt, its why Theus went to the SEC, started as a true freshman and made freshman all american teams
All I know about your father is he botched the job of raising you. I didn't mention your father.
Military? Did I mention the military?
If we get Tunsil or Kirkland will you STFU once and for all?
You want tough offensive lines that will dominate the defense even if the D knows where we're going, BUT you're under the impression you will get that having offensive linemen that can't handle Trickett.
You want to baby them, but you want them to be mercenaries.
You're a freaking buffoon.
So much fail here, if FSU doesn't get Tunsil and Kirkland will you apologize ? or admit Trickett has been a failure ? doubtful. Lots of OL's with different types of coaches do quite well, and certainly better than FSU the past 6 seasons. Many do it or have done it with far less talent. You didn't mention the military but you implied his whole post was bullshit in your words not mine, and the post was anything but bullshit.
Oh, look new id from a retread poster who wants to defend his own posts.
OL play is not an isolated island. So for some message board cowboys to assume that the OL coach has to shoulder the blame is PURE BS.
Maybe Coach Gran was asked to leave because his RBs kept doing all the wrong stuff.
I don't know, you don't know, and sure as hell NoVa doesn't know.
You dared bring up the pink elephant in the room.
Alright, let's make a deal.
If the OL isn't dominant next year (I think it will be one of the top units in the country if Menelik returns), then I will shut up and let the Coach Trickett bashing go uninterrupted.
If they are dominant, you promise to start a thread a week over what a great coaching job Trickett has done.
Deal, its like you think I enjoy trolling FSU
I enjoy watching fans like you get riled up true, but I hate the fact FSU sucks at running the football
I want nothing more than to sweat Trickett's ball sack.... sadly his performance doesn't allow me too
It would be awesome to have a Marine straight dominating, hell I would get his quote " teams will fear seeing us come into town " tatted on my butt cheeks
Hell my trolls of Rick Daddy were so on point for years that the whole fuggin blue board trolls him, talk about a freaking misery to hear other fans clown him and FSU... drives me freaking crazy that FSU doesn't get national respect
I will die a happy man the day FSU runs all over a great team, it will be like watching the birth of a first born for me
Im patiently waiting for this day and have been since OU beat FSU 13-2, haven't seen a solid ground performance since that day... except for Jones against Miami that one year... but FSU fuggin lost that game
Since when do we have an offensive coordinator?
BTW, we have signed 0 five star OL under Trickett. Despite signing multiple at every other position. You would think we would have gotten one on accident in the 6 years he has been here...
This actually doesn't bother me as much as the number of 2 star kids or dudes with horrible offers that nobody else wanted that he has brought in
He has landed around 10 of those
One good year out of seven is not sufficient. However, e en of we are good on the ol next year if he whiffs the year we probably only have a good ol for 2014 then we return to Trickett's normal which an ol that stinks. Is it too much to ask for from the highest paid ol coach in the country to have an ol that can get 3rd & 1?
