Compton leads FSU to Senior Day win

FSU didn't have much left to achieve in Saturday's regular season finale, but pitcher Mike Compton had plenty to fight for.

This team has the ability to win it all or get eliminated in regionals. Going to depend on which pitching staff shows up the next few weeks. Should be an interesting next month.

Water is just beer that hasn't reached its full potential.

  • winning it all is pretty much a pipe dream

team has exceeded expectations this season, making it to omaha with this roster would be pretty damn impressive

  • getting to the cws would be great for our young team

assuming gonzo and boyd come back and we get most of our recruiting class we should be pretty damn good next year

  • This team is weird. Part of me says that there's almost no way whatsoever that this team makes it to Omaha. But then, that same part of me would've also said that there was no way that they'd even be in the situation they are now ... so what do I know?

I don't think it's too controversial to say that this team has overachieved. And after losing 4 of 5/5 of 7, it was easy to get concerned that they might be crashing. But winning this series over NC State was a really, really big deal. NC State was no pushover -- 13th in the country -- and had a few things gone a little differently on Thursday night, FSU could've perhaps swept them.

To me, the key is how Leibrandt, Compton and, to a lesser extent, Weaver hold up in the postseason. I know people love to say that freshmen "aren't really freshmen" at this point in the season, but the postseason will be a brand new experience for each of them. How well they rise to the occasion will go a long way in determining just how far FSU can go.

I think at this point, we know what we're going to get out of the offense ... solid production from Nos. 1-4 ... hope for the best from 5-9.

In baseball, I would still consider freshman, freshman at the end of the year. They aren't used to this long of a season, not to mention the length of the post season and the pressure that comes with it.

I agree completely. Not that they can't perform well. But I don't know how you can bank on it.
