Clemson 2012

  • I know about their weapons in Ellington, Watkins, Bryant, etc.

    New defensive coordinator, etc............

However, how do we beat them on September 22nd?

Who did they lose from 2011 that helps us?

    Thoughts?

    Don Molino

  • Dont they lose like 4 offensive linemen?

    StPete_Nole72037

  • Nobody really... They had a pretty young team last year but one thing they will not hold us to 29 yards rushing... nor will they score 35 on us against a better defense... Our receivers are overall better than theirs even if Watkins is considered better its not by much... And remember last year Clint started against them so they won't have the luxury of not having to worry about the dual threat ability of EJ... we will win this game...

  • The loss that helps us is Alan Branch and the home-field. Also we are more prepared for their offense.

Only 3... But everyone else returns for their offense...

  • Sorry, not lashing out at you, but what is this boards sudden fascination with Clemson?

Seems like there are a bunch of threads on those ass clowns as of late. Worse yet, I have seen a couple of posters here acting like they are an amazing team that is poised to win a national championship.

    Oh look...WVU just scored again!

Here is how you beat them. Show up ready to play and hopefully this time around both sides of the ball show up for us. Trickett didn't do too bad, but once Clemson decided to really go after him(he doesn't have the mobility of Manuel) he made some errors. Our defense didn't do us any favors that game. Looks like we are going to stop them and then we do something stupid to shoot ourselves in the foot such as a penalty. Watkins did some amazing stuff, but we do have the guys on the field to limit the damage.

Clemson fans are the most obnoxious and disrespectful fans I have ever dealt with besides uf fans. We better send them home crying. They might play us tough, but there is no reason we shouldn't beat them at Doak this season.

  • Yeah our receivers actually outplayed them... if we had a running game we would have won...

I think Dwayne Allen was drafted. Seem to remember him being a match-up nightmare during last years game. They'll def have a good offense but we'll have an elite defense. I don't think it'll be a cake walk but I think we've got a good shot

  • Should be a fun, nationally televised game at Doak. Good for the ACC.

I don't know enough about the X's and O's of the game to produce a game plan, I'll leave that to the profesionals. I will however, be doing my part from the stands on that day.

We've seen the effects of that first hand. Runnings backs, WRs and QBs are irrelevant with poor blocking.

By the way, Dwayne Allen is gone. Why was Bryant mentioned? He had 9 catches last year. I think you meant Hopkins.

    Mike Bellamy is gone too.

  • Crowd noise will disrupt the HUNH stuff Clemson likes to run. It's hard to pass when your OTs are not getting off the ball as fast as BJ, BW and TC. If the refs call a clean game...

FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.

Not by much? Watkins is a top 3 reciever in the nation.

I had not read any threads asking for analysis about Clemson recently.

Threads on Chad Kelly and the DE recruit don't really interest me.

I am not obsessed with them and I think they have under achieved even worse than FSU, but the fact remains that we are 4-6 in the last 10 games s CU, after owning them prior to that.

I think we will show up with a chip on our shoulder and be ready to play, but it's a huge game.

  • venables is the most overrated ocordinator I can remember in college football. His defenses are soft and often blow assignments that lead to huge plays. how many times did ou have to give up north of 30 to crap teams for us acknowledge this guy sucks. if we don't light Clemson up it won't be b/c of him-it will be because of us.

  • I do want to (and believe we will) beat them to a bloody pulp.

That said, I am glad to see them have some recruiting success.

Our conference needs FSU, Clemson, VT, UM and GT to be very good.

  • 2012 Clemson will more than likely will be similar to the 2008 squad - all the offensive skilled players in the world with a rebuilt oline. But in addition to that, the 2012 version has a new defensive coordinator and 3 new starters on their dline. Playing against arguably the best dline on the road in week 4 will spell trouble for Clemson. Can't wait. noles

Brandon Thomas started mostly at LG last season for them. He's penciled in as their LT this season. So it's basically 4 new starters on the oline

  • Clemson may be the toughest matchup of the year. They ALWAYS play the Noles tough. I can't wait. The OC hire turned out to be good and their new DC is not a joke. They recruit with the best of em. I love the rivalrybut it's time to stomp a mud hole in their ass.

    Jadaway

  • Both of their lines are question marks. A Clemson site I trust was alarmed by their lack of pass rush in the spring. That spells trouble. We know first hand what a sub-par offensive line does to an offense. Combing learning a new defensive scheme with a lack of pass rush is a big recipe for disaster. With their level of talent Clemson should still win 9 or 10 games this year, but with equal injury luck I don't see them beating FSU or SCAR and Auburn and Ga Tech will be tough games.

    osceolafan

  • I agree about Coach V. While he is a good coordinator, I think Stoops was more than happy to get his brother back.

    Bowden4prez

  • They lost 4 OL and 3 DL with the only returning DL being a shockingly bad Malliciah Goodman.

Their DL is the exact kind of unit that won't take advantage of our inexperienced OL in week 4. Their top 4 DTs are all 19 and 20 years old I believe. Goodman sucks incredibly bad for his natural ability. Corey Crawford, their best DL, is their strongside end at 6'4 270 but he's a true sophomore. So he doesn't bring the refinement and experience needed to give our RT hell.

Their OL on the other hand is potentially terrible. Brandon Thomas is a good LG but he's going to have to play LT. Tyler Shatley is a 6'2 300lb version of Cam Erving in that he was going to be key at DT but now he's their starting RG. He sounds encouraging to them early on but he'll be facing Dawkins. LOL. Center is locked in with D.Freeman who's good. Other two spots are up for grabs, and will be facing our All ACCers.

  • Their offense looked all world the first half of the season and then pretty pedestrian the last half.
Why? Did it take a few games to provide enough tape so the opposing defensive coordinators could figure it out?
If it wasn't for VT their last half of season would have been even more of a monumental bust than it was.
So the question their offense has is can they replicate their first half of season magic with three new offensive linemen and a new TE? Or is the genie out of the bottle on their offense and good defensive teams know how to slow down their offense? From the look of their QB last year, pressure him and you will do well in shutting them down [not that pressure is an original strategy...]. The newbie's on the line will have a lot of pressure on them this season to avoid that.

  • CU is bad on the DL especially at DT and very thin. If we can't run the ball up the gut on them with a lot of success then we'll know that we still have significant issues at OL/RB, imo (we had a ton of issues last year on the OL but some of the time when we as fans blamed the OL it was actually the RB's fault for hitting the wrong hole).
Our game plan should be to run it a ton to tire out and beat up their DL while at the same time keeping their offense off the field and out of rhythm.
