  • Just showed him on the NFL network,IMG Academy working with QB's......seems like a no brainer to add him to the FSU staff, played at FSU,Heishman winner, played in the NFL and trains QB's for the NFL....how does that not sell recruits and Jimbo?.....with 2 spots open on the staff.

You're assuming that he wants to be a coach. He has a pretty sweet gig right now that I'm sure pays well and affords him a lot more family time.

Today it's more about recruiting than coaching. Not everyone is built to deal with the whims of 16-17 year old kids.

He has helluva gig at IMG, not sure he would take a position.

All games are important, if you don't think so try losing one and see how people act.-B.Bowden

A close friend of his has talked to him and posted that he is interested in coaching at FSU.....and actually has turned down offers from other schoolsPlus he wouldn't be running off to another school all things being equal.

  • He has no ties to Jimbo and I don't think he's the type to come in and be a QB coach in name only. I don't see this happening.

I've seen others mention a few things that might not make Weinke such a good fit ...

First, Jimbo is the QB coach. He has a certain way of doing things and probably wants whomever is going to have the qb coach title to do things his way.

Next, Weinke was a Heisman trophy winning QB that played for many years in the NFL. He has his own QB/football academy where he's his own boss and he does things his way.

Would Weinke be able to deal with Jimbo's emotional nature or defer to his way of doing things even if he thinks he's right? Would Jimbo listen to Weinke? His last qb coach was a recruiting mercenary and not much else.

Finally, Weinke has never recruited. The last ex-player hired who had never coached at the collegiate level did not pan out so well.

I agree with most everything you said except this. Weinke has been coaching at IMG for the past few years and working with high school kids. I dont think that coaching and or recruiting will be the issues with him. It will be the other things that you mentioned that will cause him to stick around IMG.

Yeah, I thought about that. You're probably right but recruiting is still a bit different than what he's doing now. I was more thinking of the time coaches have to spend on it. Would Weinke be willing to work the 70-80 hours a week or more that most young assistant coaches are expected to put in?

Well good leaders know how to delegate and defer.......how different could things be between them,Matt Barkley is at IMG to work under Weinke. It' pretty clear that Saban is the top HC in the country and before that he was the best DC and he has learned where to draw the line etc...ask Kirby Smart,Saban wants the best coaches on his staff to add to his knowledge.

Exactly... If dennisnole post is accurate, we can save our team a few years of heart ache and do away with Jimbo... Playing well with others is a part of being an effective manager...

I can't see him being that firmly set in his ways... but I don't know him personally.
