Chances we leave for Big 12

  • I think it makes perfect sense, but I see everyone saying they don't trust our admins. I think our Board of Trustees will push for it as well as our boosters. And if we are quiet on the front I think that is good news. Calm before the storm if you will. I'll put odds at 60% but I am not going to get my hopes to high. Also when are the Big 12 meetings? That is when I expect the rumors to fly or die.

  • I'd give anything for us to be in the SEC. Regionally it just makes sense and the instant rivalries would be awesome. But I guess there's no hope for that.

So yeah I'd take the Big 12 in a heartbeat. Anything is better than this garbage we put up with in the All Carolina Conference.

  • Just think...

    ACC = $17 Million

Big 12 = $20 Million WITHOUT a conference championship game or Tier 3. WVU is looking at another $4 Million per year from Tier 3 to go along with the $20 Million.

Once the BCS playoff vote takes place and passes, expansion is going to happen in the Big 12. As soon as that vote clears, word will start to spread. I just hope those conversations involve the words "FSU" and "Clemson". Adding those 2 schools and a conference championship game we could be looking at $28 million per school after adding in the extra revenue from the new additions, conference championship game and tier 3 money.

  • I really hope we do this.

  • We're never getting the SEC invite. If we miss out on the big 12 then Spetman will be officially remembered as the man who banished FSU football to pergatory.

  • Lost in the news today: The ACC released our new uniform logos for this year.

  • Best possible outcomes for FSU

    1. SEC
    2. Notre Dame+Penn St/Rutgers/Misc team to ACC
    3. Big 12
    4. Well, I don't really want to think about what happens here.

  • It is a move that has to be made if offered. If we are offered and pass it up, then we have seen the last national championship won by FSU in football. We cannot be outspent by $80+ million over a decade by the 50 other programs in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12 and hope to keep up.

This deal, along with the continuous officiating fiascos, and the joke of a home slate the ACC saddled us with (Clemson's fine, but then BC, Duke, Wake) has opened an anti-ACC floodgate among the fanbase that is beyond repair. The ticket sales and drop in Booster contributions will prove that if we stay in the league.

That legacy will be Barron's, not Spetman's, as Barron will make that decision. But I'm not confident in Spetman's ability to provide cogent advice and counsel in these matters either.

  • 0%.

You can't compete in the Big 12 anyway. You'd have 2 automatic losses to OU & Texas every year, plus Gary Patterson at TCU would out coach Jimbo, plus OSU & Baylor's offenses would destroy you.

You can't even win the ACC, you wouldn't win 8 games in the Big 12.

Spetman is getting a LOT of flack on this issue, but that's just expected from "the interwebs".

It should be noted that very often Athletic Directors have little or no say in said matters. This is normally handled by the Chancellor (Assuming there is one) and controlled by the Board (of Regents, etc).

In the case of Texas A&M, Bill Byrne was allowed to provide his opinion (it was to stay Big12), but had no say on the issue nor was involved in the intergral process of moving to the SEC.

Need proof? He just resigned yesterday after 10 years and said exactly as much as part of his goodbye speech.

So those that put this all on Spetman, it's likely unfair.

Well historically speaking you are right, but evidently i would be banned from agreeing with you 100%, so I will disagree on TCU, and we probably could beat Texas only to lose to Texas Tech the following week.

  • Even Kansas State owns Texas who is only 13-12 over the last two years so I would not worry too much about that one especially since a victory over Texas is on average a lot easier that most big franchise names. OU struggles on the road against decent teams just as they did at FSU last year. FSU wins that game with decent QB play. FSU is soon to be in a situation where they could run the table in the ACC and still be left out of the top 4 for the championship playoff because no one else in the ACC would be in the top 20 for RPI. A one loss OSU would have made the top 4 last year.

The bottom line is the Big 12 is a real football conference and the ACC will never be. It is no accident that every former football power that has joined the ACC has ultimately languished. If you are a big time football recruit, do you want to play in the SEC or the ACC? The SEC has thrived in recruiting because the ACC is so weak. That will only get worse with the new SEC TV deal that could almost double the ACC all in.

Unfortunately it appears the new ACC ESPN deal probably gave Barron enough to stay put for academics since Spetman cannot seem to get organized on the true value of Tier 3 or the reality of the new BCS. Fisher seems like another Mack Brown without the dominant recruiting position in Texas . A good recruiter who cannot win many championships because his coaching sucks. Poor leadership at all three levels produces predictable results. It is really sad to see what FSU has become. since I was there.
