Camp Preview: Offensive Line

Noles247 breaks down each position as two-a-days approach. Today, it's the offensive line.

  • Sean, any idea what a fair expectation would be for Glauser and Watson?

    signature image

    SteveIsTall

  • Is Foose ever expected to be serviceable?

What is the likely production for Faircloth?

    NOLES_WIN

  • Cam better have his big boy shoes on. That LT spot is probably the key to our season.

Legio mihi nomen est, quia multi sumu [My name is Legion, for we are many.]

    Cuthbert

  • Cam staying healthy may be the key to the season on offense. If he is out there he'll constantly improve and play darn "fine" IYAM. But if he starts missing time and loses momentum developmentally and Glauser is in there it might dip.

  • Yea I am definitely worried about what is after Erving. If he goes down we could be in for another rough year.

I'm hopeful that between Erving, Stork, Watson Glauser, Faircloth, and Hart we can get the job more than just "done"

I've got a ton of questions about the OL. What about guys liken Ruben Carter? He's listed at 6'5, but I guess he lacks the ability to play tackle?

Is Barron really a better center than what stork or krug or orelus could be? What can krug and orelus offer us?

Just seeing them all stand next to each other it seems obvious that Carter is more 6'3. He is a guard for sure.

Glauser is actually a darn solid backup LT. Much better than 17 year old B.Hart was last year even though he battled his way to a solid year.

  • Thanks. Yea I haven't really seen em all stacked up to each other. I just have the numbers online to go by.

I'm just curious what the deal is with these background guys like faircloth, krug, orelus, foose, etc.

Can those guys offer anything and if so, what?

Faircloth is 6'6 285, he's not great but he's experienced and going on 22/23 years old. So he's a decent option. Krug was wretched last year but hopefully the game has slowed down some, missing spring killed his development. Orelus was going to start as a RSo but missed the year with a major concussion. He's fat and out of shape, he needs to be 310-315 but at last report was at 328. But if he gets thinner I think he's our first sub at OG. Foose likely isn't a real person, there's real doubt he actually exists.

  • Its looking like the line will be...

    Erving Matias Barron Jackson Stork....

Glauser and Watson are the backup OT's....

Hart is in the mix with Glauser and Watson,
what about Faircloth? Could he emerge?

    Krug, Orelus provide interior depth?

You got it, that's why I still hope we can shirt Hart. All we need to do that is Stork play well and Watson work hard.

    iOL depth, IMO, would be

    1. Orelus
    2. Faircloth
    3. Fahrenkrug -- cross training at center to see if we cant get Lovelady a shirt as well.

    Pretty darn nice depth actually

Faircloth is listed at 302 now and has played both guard and tackle. He's a solid backup type guy. I kind of get the feeling that we won't see Orelus again and agreed with the rumor that Foose is a dummy bag with a wig. Pettis is WAY over weight being listed over 340 and Krug may be passed by other guys. Glauser would be a solid back up to Cam and they both have the same amount of time learning the offense. Carter and Lovelady probably need more time to develop. I really hope that Watson has an incredibly steep learning curve so we can see him on the field.

  • So would it be safe to assume that Barron has a better grasp on things at center than orelus or krug could offer?

    NOLES_WIN

  • What ever happened to Henry O? He was Trickett's kind of guy from what I remember. He's not listed.

It will be curious to see where Faircloth, Henry O, Stork, and Krug, Watson, Glauser end up. The first 3 are entering their 4th years and the 2nd 3 are JUCO brought in to contribute right away. If the bunch of True Sophomores in Barron, Hart, Matias, and Jackson beat them out it will be curious.

  • Orleus may have some fat, but some of the best OL men in the NFL has a gut hanging from their belts. The issue is, is he STRONG? If yes I don't care if he's fat, he can be a road grader. Carter is way under weight, he's not going to get much action at all. Glauser actually looked pretty good in the spring. I hope Barron put on some muscle and got a heck of a lot stronger. In the games I saw him in he new what to do, but he got over powered way too many times.

  • From a talent standpoint, our 2012 OL is strong. From an experience (starts) standpoint, our OL is weak. I hope that they can learn quickly.

Good post. I'd put a week's paycheck on the under if you set the O/U on Faircloth's weight at 300

But I'd love to lose that money! noles

LMAO at the Foose comment. That was funny as hell, bro. He even sounds made up.

I agree that some of these guy don't look as big as some other linemen I have seen but Jimbo has a track record of being honest about weights so I will believe him. I mean, if you are going to inflate some weights, Kenny Shaw, Clint Trickett and Telvin Smith are all pissed that they got left out.
