"It's not the SEC conference vs. the ACC conference," "It's Florida State vs. Auburn." --Lamarcus Joyner
20 million. Big 12 will pay 10. With new tv money the other 10 wouldn't be an issue for us.
Fair enough.....makes sense........
When is the smoke going to start coming from FSU side on this?
Maybe never. None of this may be real. Its just sound info that makes so much sense Im allowing myself to get excited. Few business mergers make this much sense in any given calendar year. And this is a business merger.
Can anybody offer insight as to why specifically GT? I can understand miami i think.
With each team that's mentioned the first thought should be television market.
All I know is, it doesn't matter if ND comes to the ACC or not. The 2 biggest problems for FSU in the ACC are the stupid divisional setup that hampers our ability to have attractive games where teams travel to us and us to them, along with the ridiculously inept or downright corrupt officiating in this conference.
To me, as long as both of those items exist, I could care less about the money or ND joining. I would always want out with those things being present. That is just me though. You fix those two things and add ND and I good as gold to stay in the ACC!
It's interesting that so many people are coming out saying there's nothing to this. (Gene Williams/Chuck Oliver for example)
Yet it just won't die from several different sources............
I found this ironic:
"Many have scoffed at this rhetoric before, and many will again. However, consider this: A four team playoff is coming down the line very soon, and RPI will factor into the selection of those 4 teams. Given how the ACC and Big East have fared in recent years within the RPI rankings, it's not very likely teams from these conferences would stand much chance for inclusion in a playoff format. As a result, the football powers in these conferences are looking for a safe haven, hence jumping to a conference that will have a seat at the playoff table."
FSU has won the ACC exactly once in 11 years, so I hate to be that guy, but we are seriously worried about rpi and a BCS playoff? Right now I have us winning possibly 9 games next year, and that is with the departure of WVU from our schedule.
This all comes down to television dollars, and I was thinkiing of the hypercrosy of the Big East today. For NCAA mens hoops the cash cow is conference tourneys and the NCAA tourney, nobody for the sot part gives a rats ass about regular season CBB, yes you have a few exceptions (UNC-Duke, UK-IU) but for the most part, its usually on during a party on saturday night, and everyone glances over for the final 30 secs if its close, shrug their shoulders and go on doing whatever it is they are doing.
I know I sound like a broken record, but all this Big 12 chatter is doing, is accelerating a process...about 16 mos ago, I had a thread about the 16 team super confs, and how the playoff will eventually encompass 4, then 8 then 16 (where it will stay).
I would bet cash money FSU, Clemson etc stay put, and the ACC does what it has to do, sooner then expected.
