Bowden appreciates hall nod, will not attend FSU opener

  • According to Kimberly Schiff, he's booked as stated. I also wouldn't blame him for being bitter (if he is). I'd be a little uneasy if i gave 34 years of my life and sacrificed as much as he did to get axed 1 year before his scheduled retirement. Not a way to respectfully end a legendary career.

  • His family is failing him. Especially his sons. Anyone who's been around a parent or grandparent at Bobby's age knows they aren't fully there. His sons need to be men and tell their Dad to get over his grudge and stop tarnishing his legacy.

No I am saying, check with him if he would show up, if not then don't vote him in the hof...pretty simple.

FSU is pushing the issue, and the end result is this.

But he deserved to be voted in. Him not wanting to attend shouldn't change that.

I don't believe for a moment that no one checked with him first. He simply upstaged us.

Bobby said "I'll be there for the banquet but I have to leave after that for a prior appt" or something to that effect.

You can believe Bobby is evil and I'll believe what he says. The man says he has something scheduled. Never known him to be a liar. Somebody forgot to clear it with his schedule.

FSU doesn't pay him. The fans don't have claim on his time. He will come back when he wants to. Let's not make chit uP to bash him

  • Bobby has stated and maintains that he will NOT come back to FSU football unless Fisher (not FSU....JF) reaches out for him to do so. He has said it many times so I dont understand why people think he has a grudge or agenda against FSU.

Bobby and Fisher do talk from time to time, not a lot.....for whatever reason Fisher has not seen a need to reach out to him in a formal invite...

I think it is fine that BB has his belief which I think I myself would make the same type of decision but I also believe that JF is not obligated to do anything more than he has with BB.

The one thing I dont understand about a seemingly large group of FSU fans is that it seems many feel they that if they like one they have to hate the other....

Why cant you just like both? What I think is interesting and I have been fortunate to spend time with both....is that they are much more similar than people realize....

Haha well I don't know about you, but if I was planning on honoring someone, I would atleast find out if that person was able to attend before announcing he would be there.

Exactly, the administration did not check with him first when they gave him the boot.

The Legend has hard feelings (as he should although he forced FSU to make that decision) but he always stated that he was going to get out of the way when his time at FSU was through so he would not overshadow his successor. When he does come back and is presented at half-time; I am hoping that the second half gets postponed due to a standing ovation that lasts for over 3 hours.

There was no scheduled retirement. The guy kept saying give me more years and more money for doing nothing and losing games.

Scheduled retirement. That's hilarious. Who scheduled that?

Love that you're quoting a known propaganda machine like fsuforeverandever. Is anyone still buying what she's selling?

It had to happen. IMO he should feel fortunate he was able to stay as long as he did.

That "one more year" crap didn't start until he knew he was going to lose his job. He was pretty adamant that he was going to stay on for a while longer up until then.

  • Sounds like FSU screwed this deal up. How in the world could someone send a press release out announcing Bowden would be at the game without first having cleared it with the man. Very bush league if you ask me.

    FearTheSpear

  • Bobby says the game has passed him by, which a infinite number of fans knew in 2006, but he will not show up at halftime of a "who gives a s%#t" game. All the admiration and love I felt for BB since I was 5 years old has turned into resentment and hate. Good riddance of a cancer that should have left many years before he did. I hope the golf course treats you well BB......arrogant SOB.

  • Its clear we have 50/50 views and some resentment on the Legend of 'Hass. Lets remember we all have one interest alike here, FSU. If you dont like my viewpoint(s), reserve the downvotes and darts for the better good as I'll show you the same respect. I respect the fact the you all have your opinion and I do NOT downvote or dart you for your honest opinion (as long as its an opinion and not a critical reference). Let's keep the FSU boards a forum to openly discuss and praise our Noles and respect one anothers views and not act like the lower echelon boards on 247. Agreed?? We're all adult minded fans here. Peace and GO Noles!!! clap

  • Agreed, Fish. Anyone to stay for as long as he or Paterno did is truly amazing and lucky. Will that ever happen again? Highly unlikely. All I was referencing is how he may / may not have felt. Thats all. Take care Fish.thumbsup

  • The root cause of Bowden's downfall was his stubborness. He was stubborn in getting his underqualified son in as OC at what was at the time the #1 program in the country. He was stubborn in not getting rid of him. He was stubborn about holding onto the same old coaches who were no longer getting it done. He is just showing in retirement the exact reason he was pushed out. I love the guy for what he did but if he wants to hold a grudge till the day he dies and never come back, I dont really care. We moved on, apparently he can't.

  • As much as I would love for him to come back I really don't blame him for not wanting to...

  • He may indeed be bitter, but I seem to recall him saying in an interview last year (hope I'm remembering it correctly) that when he was at West Virginia whenever something went wrong everyone would say, "What does so-and-so former coach think, or what would he have done." My recollection of the interview is that Bobby said he felt that there was always that hanging over him and it made his job tougher and that he vowed when he was done he'd stay away to give his replacement plenty of breathing room. It reminds me a little of Danny Ford and Clemson; seems like whenever anything goes wrong there, Danny Ford is on the radio or in a newspaper to stoke some fan angst.

For all the bashing about him not hanging around, my guess is that if he was hanging around and trying to cast a shadow he'd face some bashing for that. As far as I'm concerned, I don't have any problem with him being bitter; I understand it. FSU still did the right thing and what was necessary, but I can still understand if he isn't happy about it.

I think there's some confusion here about what Bobby would be doing. Walking out onto the field at halftime. Hearing applause.

That's it. Nobody expected, nor wants him to, hangout.

If it's as simple as Jimbo needs to ask him, then Jimbo needs to ask him. But I sincerely doubt that that is the case.
