Big Ten fan smugness

  • Anyone else have to deal with this?

    On my drive to school today (about a 30 minute drive, I go to Law School in Detroit) the local sports radio station was talking NSD. The whole half hour was filled with talk about how teams "from the south" all oversign and cheat and that none of the teams up north do that, and they were wondering if Urban would bring that shady practice to Ohio St. Big Ten fans are always accusing southern schools of cheating and that is the only reason they cant compete with them, it is so annoying.

    Then they started breaking down the Michigan and Michigan St classes. They then start talking about a WR Michigan State signed named Monty Madaris. I have never heard of his name before, but they were going on about how this kid is great and that the "southern schools" were going after him and that Florida State was trying to sign him. I was like, hold up, I follow FSU recruiting closely and I have never heard this guys name. I almost called in the station when I heard this.

    They were acting like Msu "beat" us for his services. I dont think we really recruited him too hard, at least from what I could tell

    Yes they are reaching for stuff their audience wants to hear...its not surprising. Its why many prospects have extra hats on NSD. Sometimes they have zero interest sometimes the schools have zero interest in them but they are up there for exposure to make it more interesting.

    MSU having only the 6th best class in the Big Ten had a lot to do with it I bet

    Yep, Mike Valenti. Guys a blowhard. Dont get how he got a job on Detroit radio, the only team in Michigan he likes is Michigan State (he likes NY pro teams)

    He also rips on Florida State quite a bit. One day he told a story how he ended up at Michigan State because he "likes underdogs" and he grew up hating schools like Michigan and Florida State. Then once he talked about how FSU-ND bowl game is a game between teams that are the reason "he hates CFB sometimes" claiming we are both overly hyped who never produce on field. Again he is a MSU fan, who hasnt been in a BCS level bowl game since the 80s so I dont know what grounds he has to talk about that. He again today took a shot at FSU when talking about recruiting rankings, claiming "look at FSU, signing a top class again, what will they do with it (then he made a fart noise with his mouth)"

    edit - and dang, I didnt realize how close my name on here is to yours, lol. I used to post here under DetroitNole but for some reason the renew feature wasnt working so I made this new name this month. Maybe they will let me switch to DetroitNole to avoid confusion. I assume the 734 in your name is because the area code? You live in Michigan? Im living in Plymouth now

    Yea, Brady Hoke has come in and has been whipping MSU in recruiting since he got there, refocusing on Ohio and Michigan instead of trying to get into Florida. Its hurting MSU, which is probably another reason MSU wants to downplay recruiting. Rich Rod and his obsession with Florida left the door open for Michigan St to gain some ground in state, and is part of reason for the recent surge. That door is shutting and wont be long until they are a 6-8 win annually team like they usually are.
