"Big 12 not interested in expanding at this time.”

  • Per Big12 commissioner Chuck Neinas.

Pointless to interview any #Big12 official who grants one, as it's all company line. I've seen this movie before...last year actually.

Folks, when Neinas/Pollard say "but things could change" this often, that means things will change.

    FTR - The #SEC said it wasn't expanding as well - 3 weeks later, Texas A&M was invited. #partofthegame @CFravel247 @247Sports @GSwaim

Things are looking great for FSU/Clemson coming to play big boy football in the Big 12

    Greg Swaim ‏@GSwaim

Once again it's looking very good for #FSU & #Clemson with 9 of the 10 schools, and #Horns using #ND leverage. Thursday could get wild.

  • Big 12 wants to add FSU and FSU wants out. I think there is still much to be concerned about as a Clemson fan but FSU will be Big 12'in it either in 2013 or at the latest in 2014.

Why would Clemson be concerned? Just curious

If Notre Dame were to commit then it'd be FSU and ND and Clemson would call the Big 12 and get a "The number you dialed is no longer a working number" type reaction.

FSU wants Clemson. They want a bigger east SE footprint than just WVU>

And WVU wants the same thing that FSU wants. A stable eastern division in the Big 12.

  • I think it is funny that the Big 12 ADs say they are happy at 10. Geez. What a joke. Yeah, they really don't want 12 and they really don't want the extra money from a conference championship game in football. At some point, they expand ... It's just a matter of when and who.

    Bob Ferrante

  • I expect them to say that. Until clemson and fsu announce that they plan on leaving the acc, that is all you will hear. IMO, we will hear posturing from both sides until the new big 12 commish takes over. My guess a few days after is when they will announce their intentions of leaving.

All conferences would like to be at 10 if all things(money and power) were equal.
10 is easy. Scheduling is simple.
Now the SEC is at 14 and they're telling the Big 12 that 14 stinks for scheduling.
But money and power talk and 12 will happen.

They kinda have to say that right now, if they start talking about expanding with schools that are currently in another conference then that would actually be enough for a conference like the ACC to sue the Big 12. The conference has to wait for FSU and Clemson to give notice to the ACC that they are going to withdraw from the conference and apply for membership with the Big 12 then the Big 12 can talk about adding FSU and Clemson in public.

Right now it is all about politicing and saying the right things in public, the SEC was saying the same things last year right before they took A&M and Missouri and the Big 12 did the same thing right before we took WVU and TCU.

  • FSU and Clemson will go to the big 12 and the only way the big 12 goes to 14 is of Notre Dame joins for football. We could add anyone with Notre Dame and it would be a win

The sec regrets adding tamu and mizzou to get to 14. You only go to 14 if it's a no Brainer and that's really only Notre Dame

Why would the SEC regret adding TAMU? They were trying to do that for 15+ years now.... and went after TAMU hard the last 2 years, even going through the process again in 2011 after TAMU elected to "re-commit" to the Big12 in 2010 after a lot of drama. Seems to me they wanted TAMU for more than casual or "settling" reasons.

Now on Missouri, I'd agree. They were at 13 with TAMU and planned on going with 13 into 2012, and even had agreements within the SEC council on how to do scheduling, etc.. but then reversed course later and went ahead and took Missouri.... but I suspect if they had a "do-over" in Missouri versus an east-coast team (which is what they originally wanted), they'd go with that east-coast team.

They regret adding tamu because they went to 14 teams by adding a weird cult team who provides no value. Nobody except alums and their families like you care about tamu

Cbs laughed at the sec and won't pay anymore money for that contract because they are confident tamu and mizzou will never play the marquee game.

People talk about markets being the reason for the sec expansion but tv sets who would ever watch a game matter and people in Texas don't even really care about tamu

The sec should have stayed at 12 but that opened up the big 12 for us so I am greatful

That's fan talk right there, nothing else.. and is based on absolutely no facts (or logic).

The SEC hasn't expaned in 20+ years and had no pressure to expand when they did. In fact, in grabbing TAMU, they had to deal with lawsuit threats and cracking the Big12 conference, which they were obviously willing to do.

You're not that bright, are you? Or at a minimum, you think you're much smarter than the best conference in the country and the 12 teams (at the time) that govern it.

Ever heard of "big picture thinking"? I'll give you a hint - there's much more to this expansion stuff than "football superstardom".

LOL I guess "haters gonna hate".

Where were they threatened with lawsuits?

Seriously find a place where anyone with any Big 12 school threatened to file suit against the SEC. I believe what you are getting confused is Baylor, Iowa St, Kansas, and Kansas St refused to waive their rights to file a lawsuit which was a smart move because it wasn't going to stop A&M's move to the SEC it just slowed it enough for the rest of the schools to get together and save the conference when it looked like it was about to fall apart.

  • The latest update on OrangeBloods doesn't sound very promising.

    nolesxtreme

  • The SEC may regret the additions. Think about the SEC for a moment.... Where does their money come from? TV markets? SEC collectively has the smallest markets of any major conference. Hell, the Big East had bigger markets than the SEC. The SEC made money off of great matchups that people wanted to watch. They made money off ratings, not markets. Missouri is what.... 5th in its own market behind the Royals, Thunder, Cardinals, Rams and Blues? Nobody wants to tune in to watch Missouri vs. LSU.

Big 12 went the way the SEC probably wishes they had went. Brought in two top programs that will produce great matchups that will attract TV ratings. Markets? Not so much. Big 12 is trying to do that again with Clemson and FSU. Bring in attractive schools that people want to watch against other attractive schools.

The whole "market" thing is overblown, and the SEC money in the past proves that. They will soon find that out with Missouri. A&M really never did anything in the Big 12. The only real loss is Nebraska. The conference got stronger losing Colorado.
