Best Nole to wear that #

You are out of your mind. Coles was a glorified KR. It was a little shocking that he turned into such a solid pro because he only showed flashes at FSU. He was not "key" to anything as evidenced by us not skipping a beat upon his dismissal.

Ha the 99' team also went 2-0 without Warrick, and didn't " skip a beat " without him as you put it

Coles was a star on the 99' team before getting booted off and that was maybe the best team in Nole history

Coles took a piss on Ponder imo

Ponder effin sucked and QB'ed some of the worst Nole teams of all time and never lasted a full season

Hell he probably never even comes to FSU if it wasn't for Bobby honoring his father

6 TDs in three years. He wasn't a good college player. Pretty simple. You could argue that maybe the staff couldn't get the most of out of him but we're talking about production not potential.

But please by all means, get back to trashing the only QB that FSU has put in the first round.

That first round pick was maybe the worst 1st round pick I have ever seen

I just mentioned Coles, he clearly isn't the best #7 but neither is Ponder imo

Saying Coles wasn't a good college player is just ridiculous though, he played on a loaded WR core and was one of the best

Most guys don't put up great numbers at FSU, as evidence by not having a 1000 rusher in almost 2 decades

I'm inclined to give Ponder more time but I've only been watching football for a few decades. It's possible he actually improves as he gains experience and the team gets him some pro-caliber receivers. Just spitballing though.

The numbers argument is a copout. Our great players like PDub (and good ones like Quan and Dugans) got theirs. Coles just wasn't a difference maker. The reason why our current players don't put up numbers is because of baffling substitution patterns and the fact that Jimbo doesn't know what the hell he wants to do from one down to the next. But that's neither here nor there.

Warrick never even had 1000 yards catching, he would have had he not missed 2 games in 99' but still

Its not about numbers don't really mean much to me, Coles was a special player on a team loaded with talent

And he was a difference maker imo, when he # got called

His reverse against GT in 98's was incredible and him and Warrick had a nice reverse pass in the Duke game in J Ville back in 99'

Good stuff though, I can't think of who else wore #7

Me neither and this is a great thread especially since I'm still up, unwinding from work. Pretty crazy that more legit studs didn't have #7 since it's a favorable number. CJ can nail it down though with a great senior season.

Coles was not a "star" in college. He caught 62 passes his entire career at FSU. Barely over 1,000 yards receiving.

Like him or not, Ponder was a three-year starter who passed for 6,800+ yards and 49 TDs. His impact while at FSU was much greater.
