So I was at Jury Duty yesterday (I know lucky me). But I was sitting next to a guy who works with the basketball program. Name escapes me. Anyway....he gave me some interesting things.
A. On Ian Miller and his grade issues as of late. He is best friends with Muggsy (sp) Bogues (sp) son and is close with the whole family. So thats part of the problem of not getting the grades. He seems to think that he doesnt have to, but that might have now changed this semester.
B. They truly believe this team will be better then last year.
C. When talking about this recruiting class...I mentioned Thomas and Brandon and he made it a point to mention Bookert the kid from Alaska. They also really like Gilchrist who they think can turn into a Bernard James clone.
On the OPs points...
A.I'm not sure how the Bogues family connection leads to poor grades, but Miller needs to be told that he is not a surefire NBA player right now. He has the potential to be a solid NBA role player down the line. But he's not even a rotation player in the NBA as of this moment. He needs to get the grades, prove he can play the PG position, and work to be more consistent before NBA teams will give him any thing other than a 10-day contract. And I say this as a big Miller fan, I just don't want him to get caught up in the misinformation crap that kills so many guys careers.
B. I to see the potential for a better team, the offensive firepower possibilities are through the roof (and not just for the 'Noles in general, could score 10+ more PPG) and Ham will make them play Def.
C. Not sure about Bookert, but there's no film on him from the 2011-2012 season and he has been at Impact Basketball Academy for the last year working on his game. I do however see the Gilchrist potential, not sure about James comparison, but he could be very good. They are just two very different players to me. Look for a Gilchrist Hoops Film Room to come out early next week.
I think what the guy was saying was that when you hang with that family you get the feeling that school just isnt important. Not the family's fault, its natural when you are around people of that stature, all you think about is basketball and fame. Not school.
And to the guy that asked if this class will play alot. Yes, they are going to have to. We dont have the depth to use them sparingly like we have previous classes and expect to be successful.
