Sandy D'alembert was pretty well liked I think.

    I liked her too...

The ony negative is she rolled over when Coach Bowden threatened to quit if Jeff wasn't hired. However, I respect her for admitting that down the road.

  • He will now get out of the way if this was a sincere email. However, this could have been by design so as not to seem too needy to the Big 12. It needs to appear to the big 12 and maybe even the SEC or ND (If they are thinking about an ACC conference affiliation) that some of the decision makers at FSU are not on board.

That will also give a potential other option time to manifest itself. See above. I personally think the SEC will cut off its nose to spite its face as evidenced by taking money loser Mizzou. It will be reduced to taking it hopes Va tech and a louisville. there is a more than good chance Louisville will be the better of the two teams to get it to 16 if we are not 15.

mizzou costs them money to be in the conference. Also, mizzou has the same travel issues we would going to the big 12. They seem to think its ok.

As to us, you honestly don't think Barron is pissed about the ACC deal? Swofford "probably" inferred there was big 12 type money coming to the ACC.

Our TV deal is the poster child why the "Geographic Footprint" arguument is a load of crap. We added the Penn and NY markets. We should have the biggest contract. Wait, peope have to watch the games for the geogrpahic footprint to matter?

Then it so only about people watching the games after all. We deliver that in spades.

Remember, there is no rush to finish this process.

Lol dude, so essentially your saying once fsu and uf met the criteria they set, then they could skirt the cap on tuition hikes. That is basically what I said about unlimited tuition hikes, right?

Universities should have to cut back just as they are doing with everyone else's budgets, ie school systems etc., so CRY ME A RIVER Trick....

Except it's not unlimited. As I said, get your damn facts straight. Cry you a river? What are we, in the 3rd grade?

Being able to offer market value tuition is a separate issue from that of budget cuts.

Too late for that strategy now. Too much damage. Somebody at FSU needs to stand up and show real leadership.

Talk about overreacting. He's looked dumb. Haggard's looked dumb. Spetman IS dumb. It's hardly the end of the world. In a few months a lot of this could be forgotten.

Barron does have one good point, though. Most FSU alumni/fans don't care about academics or that we've lost hundreds of millions in state funding the last several years. There was no real outcry about that on any FSU site but as soon as he emails a memo pertaining to athletics that people don't like, LET'S FIRE HIS ASS.

Give me a break. I'm pro-Big 12 and think Barron's memo was pretty awful but fire the guy over THAT? After all the shit we let Wetherell get away with? Yea, sorry. I have higher aspirations for FSU as a university than to fire our president over an email memo.

Did Texas fire your president/athletic director when he said you guys had a Tech problem? I hope so.

  • Calm down, guys.

Lol Trick, you got more spin than Barron with this market value bs. Market value is a polite way of saying, we will charge whatever we want. FACT!

Oooh goodie. I can play this game.

Fact: If FSU prices itself out of the market students will quit applying.

That is 100% false. Kids are conditioned to go to college and they will continue to do so. They will apply to and go to FSU, like they do with UM at their rates. They will just have to get smarter about their degree choices, which they should anyway.

That is a flat out lie. Get your facts straight. He and the UF president got the legislature to pass a bill that would've required the two schools (and any other state university) to meet certain academic qualifications. If those were met they would be allowed to charge market rate tuition for certain programs IF AND ONLY IF our Board of Trustees approved it. You ARE aware that we have some of the cheapest tuition in the nation, right? If tuition would've gone too high you would've seen decreased applicants and tuition would've been able to be corrected. But the governor vetoed it. Oddly, a republican is in favor of governmental price controls and not the free market.

    ================================

As far as all of you saying we should fire Barron, don't be idiots. Firing your president over some comments he made about athletic conferences? That's a great way to have nobody apply to be your new president. He says we need to at least do our homework on it. What more could you ask at this point? He's aware of the fan interest and unrest. Let's see where the football playoff goes and how much the Big 12 and SEC officially sign for. At that point there will be more definitive proof one way or the other and a decision would be easier to make.

But please, for the love of god, knock off this "Fire Barron" crap. It makes us all look like fools. Many of us obviously attended or have family that attended and want to see BOTH academics and athletics be the best they can be. Removing Barron over THIS would show that we don't take academics seriously and that the rest of the country should assume our university is a joke. Jmo.

    Agreed.

As someone who is all for a move, I think it is pretty silly to be talking about firing Barron over this. Although, I do hope/believe he needs to keep a more open mind on this.

They are space limited and foster a small, private school mentality. Unless you are being intentionally dense, it's clear that Miami is marketing a different product type.

The demand curve for college education is jumping up yearly and to unprecedented levels. The demand curve is also fairly inelastic. Not as much as for, say, fossil fuels, but it is much more so than other services. There is surplus demand you can use to tailor your product to and get the type of student you want. Simple fact is kids will continue to demand college education even to levels up to 150% or 200% of current rates. The rates in other states clearly show that.

BTW, Miami has total undergraduate applicants, all programs: 27,747 and only admits 38 % of applicants. UM could accept another half as many before reaching FSU acceptance levels, despite the fact they charge over SEVEN TIMES the tuition ($38,440.00 versus $5,800). Kids line up to pay 7 times the tuition at UM.

We could conceivably charge triple the current tuition and simultaneously reduce acceptance by 30%, thereby raising our academic standing and making more revenue.

    How's that for positive thinking!
