have offered an 8th grader.... kid is already 6-foot-1, 215 pounds...
Alabama has given a scholarship offer to soon-to-be eighth-grader Dylan Moses.
I guess when ya got it, ya got it. We offered Derwin James in 9th grade i believe.
It's a warranted offer. Dude is just an animal and there's basically no projection involved. 6'1 215 and runs a 4.6
He's gonna have to wait to get his new car from bama for another year or two.
USC offered a QB prospect who was in 8th grade a couple years ago. I personally think it's ridiculous, but it's not my career on the line if I don't land an elite talent.
In a year or two, colleges will just do a quick background check on the parents (to ensure competence) and request a DNA sample at birth... Anything measurable (short of work ethic and faith/willingess to give 100%, even in the face of insurmountable odds) is probably predeterminable after all....
I'm not sure it's ridiculous, but I would say very aggressive. It never hurts to get on these kids as early as possible. They sure as heck remember who their first offer was from and relationships matter.
