Auburn finished 3rd for Ronald Darby (Story on his commitment)

  • Ronald Darby's stress ends with Florida State commitment - ESPN

The stress was getting to Ronald Darby and his family. With a grounding from his mom, he was able to make his commitment to Florida State.

I hope people take something away from this comment. I want to apologize to Fowler for anything I may have said to offend you. My emotions got the best of me.

No no, Fowler deserves it. Darby made a grown up decision, and gave ND ample notice.

    Fowler is just a turd.

Big difference in decommitting ahead of time and leaving a school hanging on NSD after being committed for a year.

  • Fowler's a big Chicken or egg situation. I've never read more disrespectful posts about a Florida State commitment in my life. Drama queen this, immature brat that.

Now his decommitment plays well into the hands of those that said those things. See, we were right. And I'm not saying they're not. But maybe he read the boards and thought, "well F them if they think that about me." and he would be right, too.

I know this, I never get too up or too down about any recruit until they sign. And then when they do sign I give myself a month to win the lottery (meaning every recruit we sign lives up to their highest Potential in my mind). Then I remind myself of Fred Rouse, Xavior Lee and Willie Williams, the three "can't miss" prospects I allowed myself to be talked into believing were program changers (well, maybe they were), who are 3 of the biggest disappointments I've ever seen.

Am I saying bad mouthing Fowler made him decommit? No. Am I saying I want Fowler? No. I think a player afraid of the depth chart is unlikely to succeed. What I am saying is, next year, maybe people should hold back on insulting committed players because they aren't dealing with recruitment the way they would themselves. That way we can be certain it was the player that instigated the situation, not us.

Well, I might buy your argument except for the holes in it.

1- If he read these boards, he read them well prior to signing day, so if he was pissed he would have decommitted
2- If he failed to see by the comments that his behavior was boorish, he lacks the fortitude to self reflect. Problem.
3- I know for a fact there were as many gator fans writing negative comments about him.

I agree with the basis of your argument and in 99% of the situations the kids don't deserve the crap they get.

HOWEVER, fowler is an entirely different situation. He brought all of it on himself and he stuck himself out there more than the vast majority of recruits do. Hell, the night before signing day he publicly asked each fan base to tell him why he should pick their school! You simply don't do that and not expect to receive negative feedback. He Also reaffirmed his commitment within a week of signing day and then did not sign here due to "depth chart issues" which I might add, had not changed since he committed.

I guess the point I am trying to make is, I agree with you, however using fowler isn't the best example to use considering the circumstances surrounding him

    dubnole

  • To dub nole and atgreek.

Honestly, that's fine. The fact he did flip makes what was said about him prescient. I just think people shouldn't attack these kids.

And I especially think attacking them for what someone's cousin's best friends roommates aunt said he was going to do is stupid.

If I could go through recruitment, would I try to be more like a Goldman, Darby or Edwards Jr.? Sure. But I've never done it and 99.9 percent of the people on these boards haven't either.

Atgreek, I know you see the process more thoroughly than I ever will, so honestly I'll just err on the side of listening to your thoughts, while trying to point out thatI wasn't trying to defend Fowler's actions, just trying to point out that bashing kids may turn out to bring about the negative situations you'd bashing him about.

  • Fowler has no class. He disgraced his family and he disgraced himself.
