  • Looks about right to me. Best recruiting coach in the acc. I would say around 5th best gameday coach.

  • So it is hard to rank Fisher any higher than 5 cause of no ACC title, but Al Golden is number 3 while winning 6 games... really.... hmmmmmm seems odd... JMO

  • He has a lot to prove. Let's just wait and hopefully come back and fill this writer's inbox with flames 8 months from now.

I agree, but behind Al Golden.... that is the only coach that I have a legit problem with....

  • Golden barely won 6 games on a roster absolutely loaded with nfl talent that is leaving. Why he is ranked ahead of jimbo is laughable. I agree on beamer and johnson. Would throw grobe there as better than jimbo too

  • I think Grobe might be the best of the bunch at this point. Johnson hasn't done anything to me, so why is he up there? Golden, that's just crazy talk at this point. Beamer should be up there, but more about transitions at other programs. Dabo, as much as I make fun of him, has an ACC championship to his name and should be higher.

  • Agree with many of you, the major issue isn't what they said about Jimbo, it is Golden being ranked so high. Grobe should be switched with him.

The notes he has under Golden just reveal this is just another writer who did weak research and threw a list together, likely purposely goading a large fanbase so as to get a ton of hits.

    fsufsu

  • don't get al golden being that high and don't get grobe being that low

grobe is the best coach in the league imo

  • I think they are basing it alot on there whole career as a coach. Paul Johnson has won national championships at the 1aa level. Golden turned around a pathetic temple team. It was a tough year with suspensions and everything going on in Miami they probably took that into count. FSU massively underachieved last year. It's hard to call jimbo a great gameday coach.

    KtownNole

  • That list is preposterous.

    1 - Grobe
    2 - Beamer
    3 - Fisher
    4 - Johnson
    5 - Cutcliff
    6 - London
    7 - O'Brien
    8 - Spaziani
    9 - Golden
    10 - Fedora
    11 - Dabo
    12 - Edsall
    12 - Edsall

After the West Virginia showing, Dabo should be near the bottom.

Even though Clemson was woefully unprepared for the Orange Bowl, I would have to go with this list. I think even Beamer would rank Grobe ahead of himself.

  • Unfortunately, you have to put Dabo ahead of Fisher because of the ACC crown. Beamer is #1 hands down and has owned the ACC for a while. Johnson won the ACC at GT so he is up there. London beat Fisher at home in a very embarrassing way with less talent so I put Jimbo at #6 right now. I sure hope this changes soon but based on results you have to go this way IMO.

    1 Beamer
    2 Grobe
    3 Johnson
    4 Dabo
    5 London
    6 Jimbo
    7 Golden
    8 Cutcliff
    9 Obrien
    10 Spaz
    11 Edsall
    12 Fedora

  • As for Grobe being number one, please consider the following. He has not had a four star athlete sign in the years he has been at Wake. For that matter, the vast majority of players that have signed with Wake have been two star players. He certainly doesn't have the success that others in the conference enjoys in recruiting, but it is hard to deny that his staff has put together some very good Xs and Os on the offensive side. Although Jim Grobe's overall record is just one game below five hundred, his teams have been extremely competitive.

One of the criteria was off-the-field issues. When was the last time any of us heard about Wake having these any sort of off-the-field issue? And Grobe has won a conference championship with, as stated, primarily two star athletes. One coach above Grobe on that list had a conference title stripped because of issues off the field.

Golden and London obviously are three and four based on results outside of ACC competition. Based on results within the conference, neither has a winning record. Jimbo's supporters could make an argument that he should be ranked above them.

One could make the argument based on recent results that Frank should stay at the top followed by Grobe, Dabo and Jimbo. JMO

  • What we don't know is what Athlon is basing their statement on. Is it metrics, polling, internal vote? To say he's 5th is a smack. I think he's definately 3rd, if not second to Beamer but I could prove my case to say he's a tie with Beamer. If Jimbo can fix our inconsistency (which I believe he can), he'll be regarded as one of the best ACC Coaches.

Not to mention, unless you have been to Wake Forest and have seen how small the school is, and see how bad the facilities are (comapred to ours) you can't fathomn the job the guy does there.

His office is about the size of my kitchen, and no my kitchen is not big.

this list looks pretty realistic to me. Jimbo has proven himself an amazing recruiter but an underachiever on gamedays... hoping for all that to change though.

I would like you to prove your case he is tied for the best coach in the ACC.
