Are you guys feeling better or worse....

  • I know heading into the summer a lot of fans were freaking out about FSU's recruiting. I get the sense that those feelings have calmed.

    What's the general consensus? Obviously there are still needs to be met, but overall how do you guys feel about the class?

  • Feel better now that Shelton is gone. Would still like to see 1 of Baker or Johnson defect. OL looks good, DL will be fine.

  • Never one to freak out about recruiting especially with our coaching staff, however we need to finish strong. By strong I mean we must keep who we have (concerns with Marquez White and Tony Stevens), land the HHF the likes of Mackenzie Alexander, Matthew Thomas, Laremy Tunsil, Stacey Coley, Alex Collins plus bring Deadrin Senat back in the fold and possibly Keith Bryant need 3 DEs those being Davin Bellamy, Za'darius Smith and Tim Williams. Would like to include Denver Kirkland but think he is all about Miami and Rashard Robinson but seems a lean to LSU.

    Thoughts?

  • Was hoping to get a few commits from last week's camp, but overall feeling good. I think it will get even better if we win the ACC.

  • Josh, how big do you see this class being? Assuming we have 9 spots left (class of 25) we could get..

    2 DE's
    1 DT's
    1 OL (Tunsil, Kirkland)
    2 DB's
    1 LB (Thomas or bust)
    1 WR (Coley or bust)
    1 RB (Collins or bust)

    Seems like really limited numbers right now so I'm very curious as to how this plays out.

  • Way too many elite guys still on the board to start panicking. The juco de, matthew Thomas, Mac Alexander, Alex Collins, Stacy coley are all guys I think FSU has at least a 50/50 shot at getting.

  • About the same... Glad we lead for Thomas... Glad we are in there for Kirkland... but I don't really know any other guys that I'm really excited to hear we are looking into and have a chance... Alexander twins don't seem all that interested in both coming to FSU and Mackenro has proven better than most thought he was but he isn't a recruit I jump up and down for... Our LB are so under rated but I don't know anything about Stevenson at all so I can only go by what people say and everyone on the board says he is a stud... CB i want at least one elite guy.... White is the only CB we have that I watch his highlights all the time and that's saying something... Ryan Green, Ira Denson, The LB's, and White make this class good but its not great...

  • Why anyone would freak out about our recruiting w/ this current staff and a tad over 6 months till NSD is beyond me. THese days recruiting is the least of my worries, by far.

  • Down-voted levynole by accident. Was trying to hit "reply" and got distracted, my apologies. I keep hearing how Baker needs to be replaced, but the thing is, by whom? Not a bunch of viable candidates at this point TBQH.

    And to answer Josh I'm okay with where the class is. Love the WR class and the LB's and OL. White, Hoskins, Lyons, Klepal, and Stevenson are all kids that I anticipate eventually moving up to 4* status at some point or another. Combined that with the fact FSU sits in contention with several top kids like Tunsil, Alexander,Coley, Thomas, Collins, Kirkland, and others this class could really rise once some kids rankings get adjusted and if we can land a few of those NSD recruits. Feel better, but the class is still deficient in some areas (D-line obviously)

  • I am not overall concern with the class ranking (It will be in the top-12 for sure), my concern is with filling needs and that hasn't been done, yet.

  • Would have like to have gotten Smith after the camp at DE. Too early to freak out. A real good season and they'll want on board.

  • This season will play such an important role in how this class turns out that I'm starting to lose a little bit of interest in recruiting at this point, which is something I never thought I'd say. Our class will probably turn out about as good as our overall record. Also, UM sanctions, UF coaching stability (if they have an unexpectedly bad season), who from our staff leaves, and our NFL early drafters play huge factors as well. At the current moment though, I feel content with the class knowing that so much can change by February 2013.

  • As it stands meh BUT we have 6 months an Acc championship and BCS game to go - in all seriousness our board is stacked and I think we have as good or better shot than anyone else IF we live up to expectations.

    We are in it for:
    Alexander
    Tunsil
    Thomas
    Kirkland
    Zadarius
    Coley

    That's elite talent and if we perform well pull our fair share of it, if we don't we may be dissapointed. Time to put up or shutup for fsu and potential.

    Also like Blake and Darby there will always be some under the radar recruits that will make you think wtf around February

  • Crush the ACC this year, head to a BCS and things will fall into place. Although compared to the last two classes, it's a little light. Class is decent, not spectacular, but that could change rapidly with a few big names.

    I agree with this but hopefully after watching our defense as a whole and especially the D-line maul everyone on the schedule we should be known as one of if not the most dominant D in the country. Top flight kids that aren't scared of competition will be lining up to be part of that. It'll be just like the good ol' days.

  • The DB class as it stands right now leaves lots to be desired. Questions remain how solid White is to FSU and until he signs on NSD it'll be a dog fight. Baker is an unknown after only playing 1 year of HS football and truly don't know if Coach Fisher accepted his committment for PR reasons, I'd like to hope/think otherwise and that he has a high ceiling. Mackenzie Alexander and Rashard Robinson are 2 from the state of Florida that no one can say for certain how good our chances are with either. Robinson from all accounts is a strong lean to LSU and Mackenzie doesn't say much. Will we have another surprise like Darby last recruiting cycle?

  • I feel pretty much the same about our class as before. Love the LBs and OL. Concerned with our DB recruiting and our DL class is non existent right now. I am with the consensus of the board that I am confident in our staff and that alleviates much of the worry.

    That said I agree that after the last couple of classes that this one so far is a let down. I think we are at the point where potential can't be used to sell recruits and now success needs to be shown on the field. If the wins happen like they should and we don't have stupid slip ups I think the recruits will begin jumping on the winning program bandwagon.

  • Class is great in some spots and Meh in others (wich happen to be positions of need). IMO winning will take care of that and I wont worry to much about this class till the end of the season.
