Aaron Thomas is a stud-Video and (Update) article

  • So I've linked a video or two of Thomas before, but this is the best one. IMO, his film is as impressive as Snaer and Miller's were, if not more. I'm not sure if he'll ever be the defender or 3 point shooter Snaer is, but his all around offensive game is on a higher level than Snaer's was as a recruit. He has serious hops, can slash, can dish, has a great pull up, and can hit the 3.

He's a Syracuse, Georgetown, Lville type player and we did a great job sticking with him through his grade issues. I know the coaches are very high on him and you can see why from this video. I can't see him being anything less than our first guard off the bench.

  • Kid is very good. I thought he was juco boumd cause of grades though?

  • He was originally a 2011 recruit and is in prep school now. Pretty sure those clips are of his prep school season.

    JeffSpicNolie

  • Thomas is a stud, and yes those clips are from his prep school. One of those highlights is of him beating the shot clock and they dont have shot clocks in high school. What is scary is that Montay Brandon is probably better. If we can get Snaer to come back then we could have some lethal guards.

    NoleBrave03

  • Brandon is a stud too, but not sure he will be as college ready as Thomas next season. Thomas's prep team is loaded with elite recruits and he's gotten some experience this year playing against quality competition. Possibly the equivalent of playing a year of JUCO. I think he'll come in next year ready to play from day 1. Brandon probably has the higher ceiling long term though.

I think both Brandon and Thomas will jump Whisnant in the rotation. Not that Whisnant isn't good, but Brandon and Thomas are just a different caliber player.

    JeffSpicNolie

  • Thomas played against some of the best teams in the nation. Brewster Acdemy played against teams like the team that Dulkys played for, Oak Hill and they even play some of the best high schools in the nation.

If Whisnant can get more confidence in his shot he can be a dangerous player from down low.

  • We will definitely have some scoring options in the future at shooting guard and small forward.

Still concerned about the point guard position, and having the size in the pain that we had this year.

We will still be big, we just wont have the waves of big men coming off the bench like we have had the last several years. Turpin is 6'11, White is 6'9, Shannon is 6'10, Space is like 6'8 or 9.

Shannon is only 6'8, and Antwan Space is 6'7

Space is a wing player too, don't confuse him as a big man, because he's rail thin.

Really? I recall him taking more jump shots, than banging down low.

On average, we will be about making .5 inches shorter in the paint and as a team next year.

Henson and Zeller are twigs and dominate.

I've heard Space is closer to 6'9 and at 230, he is plenty big enough to play inside.

    We will be:

We could actually be bigger (overall) if we add another 6'11/7'0 player in this class.

In the post there won't be too much of a difference in overall height from this year to next year either

Keep in mind that James grew 2 inches from last season to this season. We may see a player or two make similar height changes.

Gilchrist is ~6'9". We will have good size, just not great size. Shannon is not 6'10", probably 6'7" or 6'8", about the same height as Space and White, I think. Space, White and Shannon are listed as 6'8" on the roster so if anything, they're shorter than that, not taller.

  • FSU basketball signee emerges asone of nation's top players

With a No. 1 national ranking and a roster filled with Division-I talent, the Brewster Academy basketball team's home gymnasium was a popular stop for the nation's top college coaches this past season.

And perhaps the main attraction at the Wolfeboro, N.H., prep school was a player that no coach other than Leonard Hamilton had a chance at recruiting.

Shooting guard Aaron Thomas, who is finishing up his academics at Brewster before enrolling at Florida State this summer, already was one of the nation's highest-rated players when he signed with the Seminoles in November 2010.

But after a year at Brewster, Thomas has taken his game to another level.

"We've had so many college coaches on campus," Brewster coach Jason Smith said. "And when all the coaches came, I'd bet eight out of 10 would ask about Aaron. They'd say, 'The kid going to Florida State is the real deal.' "

Smith said the list of coaches who inquired about Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 195-pounder who can play guard or small forward, included Kentucky's John Calipari, Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and North Carolina's Roy Williams. But the interest was not mutual.

"Aaron made it very well known that he was firmly committed to Florida State," Smith said.

"Florida State is like a family," Thomas said, explaining why he never wavered. "It's like home. I like the team and the style of play, and a lot of pros come out of there. And that's what I want to do

    ....

Coming out of Cincinnati's Withrow High in 2011, Thomas was rated by several recruiting services as one of the top shooting guards in the country; he averaged 22.0 points per game as a senior.

But it was his development at Brewster ? often dominating opponents at both ends of the floor ? that have many suggesting he will be the jewel of FSU's 2012 signing class.

"When I recruited Aaron, I knew he could score, but I had concerns about how he would be as a defensive player," Smith said. "I joke with him that people told me he couldn't guard a tree. But defensively, he had a great year. He has exceeded expectations."

    ....

As part of the development process at Brewster, Smith said students are evaluated every grading period by teachers, dorm parents, advisers and others. The highest achievers ? those who are most prepared for class, who engage in discussions and set a strong example for their classmates ? are named John Brewster Scholars.

Thomas has earned that distinction each time, Smith said.

"Academically and socially, he's been phenomenal around campus," Smith said. "Being named a John Brewster Scholar means he has received the highest recognition. That means he has gone above and beyond ? he's been a leader around campus. Less than 30 percent of our students earn that status every period."

    .....

Now, Thomas said, his focus is on helping FSU follow up on its successes of 2012. He said he was not the least bit surprised when the Seminoles knocked off Duke and North Carolina to win the school's first ACC championship, and he believes there are even brighter days ahead.

"A lot of people doubted Florida State because everybody hasn't been paying attention to them," Thomas said. "But I knew what Florida State was about."

And soon, Smith says, Florida State fans will find out what Thomas is about.

"We have six guys who are going to go off and play elite, high-level Division-I basketball," Smith said. "And in my opinion, Aaron is the most ready to play at that level and find success."

  • Been saying it for awhile now. Aaron Thomas will at worst be our 6th man this year.

His coach says he is the most college ready of a group that includes 5 star McDonalds All American TJ Warren (NC State). 5 Star Mitch McGary (Michigan). 4star Jakar Sampson (St. Johns). Semaj Christon-high 4 star (Xavier).
