ACC adds Pitt, Syracuse

The Atlantic Coast Conference officially adds both Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

    Bob Ferrante

  • Both are superior academic institutions to FSU. Both have a history of good sports programs including football. I like this addition. I hope we don't go to the SEC which is one of the worst academic conferences, despite its sports money.

  • Font like the picks at all. Great basketball programs but I don't think it foes anything to strengthen the ACC's reputation as a great football conference. I think West Virgina would of been a better pick then Syracuse.

  • Let's face it. We are a football school stuck in a basketball conference. Every move the ACC makes is geared towards basketball.

  • Guess that's a no for Texas then

No, actually so far the moves are really about the academic statue of the conference. Don't know if it continues, but I think it makes sense to keep in mind both sides [academic and athletic]. As good as the SEC is in football at the present time [it will not continue forever], they are bad on the academic side. I am happy we do not emulate them.
If we add Texas too, that would be the same strategy and would allow us to add a lesser academic institution without diluting the reputation.

  • Unfortunately, I think the Texas coming to the ACC thought is just about dead. Texas wants to bring a couple Big 12 teams with them and now there isnt room and from FSU standpoint look at the way the divisons are going to have to be set up. If they go North and South then all the "football" schools will be in the South together. It will be lopsided just the way the Big 12 has been for years. Some lousy team from the north will get in the championship game while the schools in the South beat up on each other every year. Academically the ACC is great but from the sports side it is not what FSU needs. We would be better off in the Big 10. Still get academics but receive better revenue and sports partners. Big 10 fans travel, ACC does not.

  • I don't like this move at all.

Umm, I'd like to sign up for the SEC and the money please.

  • I think it sucks we added one mediocre and one truly awful team and we need to leave the ACC ASAP

  • To me, this means we are going SEC..

    Doubt it.

"Last Tuesday, with the other participating by phone. During the meeting, they unanimously approved raising the exit fee to $20 million -- up from $12 million to $14 million -- for any member leaving the conference, a maneuver seemingly designed to keep the remaining ACC schools in the fold".

Let's wait and see what happens with the 15th and 16th team before complaining. There was double digit schools who displayed interest in the ACC according to Swafford (Texas is rumored to be one of them).

The raise to 20 million was to keep FSU from making a quick jump. As far as waiting on other two schools, if its Uconn & Rutgers like some have been saying on sirius radio then it is a joke. If the ACC thinks it had a poor reputation as a football conference before they are only reinforcing it. If the ACC wants to be only basketball driven then they can have it, FSU needs to protect its own interests.

    GO NOLES !!!

That's exactly what I was pointing out. We will be fine in the ACC.

You say that until you have to travel that far north for a terribly scheduled Thursday night game in November for football. biggrin

See again you guys are not looking at the big picture, would you rather travel to Oxford, Mississippi or Pittsburgh, PA?

The money begin in the ACC is actually going to be higher than the SEC, due to the fact the ACC will now have more than double the television sets than the SEC.

The ACC footprint is going to be HUGE.....we can be playing games in the Meadowlands, Heinz Field....new recruiting territories....HUGE.

It's NOT about market, it's about viewership.

So basically you are saying the entire Big East and a poker move by Texas.

    Underwhelmed.

EDIT: He probably included mid majors like Memphis and UCF in that double digit figure as well.

  • I'm just going to avoid these threads until things are finalized. There is so much misinformation, hatred and bias towards the ACC among FSU fans. There is no way to have a legitimate conversation with some of you.
