A coach who has "South FL connections"

There have been many on here adamant that the next coach has south FL ties. Others argue that we should hire the best coach for the job, regardless of whether he can recruit the southern part of the state.
How about this scenario- hire the best coach for the job, regardless of region. Then hire 1-2 in a support-staff/recruiting capacity who currently coach at South FL high schools.
Would this please everybody?

Can't ever please everybody. I think the south FL connection is a little over hyped. The only school with true south FL connections is UM. If you are a great recruiter and coach, you should be able to pull players from anywhere. We keep winning, and beating the boys down south and we will get our fair share.

My thoughts too. FSU has been #2 in Dade and Broward for decades. The name on the shirt is big because we've established relationships and a rep. over decades with a multitude of coaches. Relationships can be established. Good recruiters are good recruiters.

Can't connections be developed? How long does that take? 1-2 years? Longer? And what high school coach would shun an FSU recruiter just because there is no pre-existing connection? Well, I guess I can imagine that happening, but it's silly.
Seems to me like if FSU is winning and Jimbo is building a strong program, a HS coach would not need a "connection" to encourage his kids, or support them at least, to consider FSU.

Yes, it seems you would want top talent-producing high schools to have a relationship with the whole program. You wouldn't want a pipeline to dry up every time a single assistant coach moves on. But maybe all relationships are intensely personal and high school coaches don't have relationships with a "program."
