Will the 2013 Offensive Strategy have to change significantly from the 2012 strategy due to a number of factors? In 2012, we came into the season with dominant defensive players at DE coupled with great DBs. In addition, we had a senior QB who ran hot and cold but was traditionally very good in the short to mid-range passing game. Outside of Thompson and Green, we really didn't many big play guys on the offense. This led to a very conservative strategy which relied on the defense and better overall talent to win games. When EJ was hot, he could engineer a 10 play drive that was simple dominant.
In 2013, we'll have a young aggressive defense with talent at LB and safety couple with good ends and young talented CBs. This defense is going to give up big plays but it's also going to make alot of big plays. While on offense, we are going to have a young QB surrounded by alot more talent at skill positions and offensive line. Plus a number of big play threats at WRs. I wouldn't be surprised if Fisher does the opposite of what everyone expects him to do and designs an offense that more closely resembles a spread. It would have simple reads for the QB and would put the QBs in open space time and time again. Plus have a bunch of WRs screens to Bracey and Kermit. An offense that pressure the other team to keep up.

I hope we run the
ball down opponents throats this year
If you are playing a young QB, you'll stack the box. I don't care who you, it's tough to run on an eight man front. If we start burning folks with WR screens to Bracey and Kermit. It's tough keep putting a safety in there since no one in college football is fast enough to run down Bracey.
This is actually the subject for our next podcast so I've been doing research on this. Going back and looking at his LSU offenses, Jimbo's offenses were a lot more creative back then. I think this had a lot to do with personnel issues at FSU. From 07-12 Jimbo has had to scheme around: undersized O-Line, Inexperienced O-Line, Horrible O-Line, Inexperienced QB, Backup QB, Injured QB, Inconsistent WR play, 2 seasons of losing top WR right before the season started.
So far the major differences I've noticed from Jimbo's last couple of years at LSU and his time at FSU are:
- The fullback position was primarily used in short yardage. Phased out of the offense for the most part
- Creative use of the H-Back position. Sometimes it's a TE, other times it's a tailback or speedy receiver. This created several matchup problems for opposing defenses and opened things up for the receivers.
- Tight Ends much more involved in the passing game
- A lot of 2 TE sets (Jimbo wanted to do this in 2012 but Hicks got hurt)
- Offensive line had the ability to block with 5 for the most part, so that enabled everyone else to be deployed in the passing game
- I see a lot of the same route combinations from the receivers but the throws and reads are a lot easier because the TE / H-Back are in the routes and have to be accounted for.
Those are the things that jump out to me so far. I think this is what Jimbo would like to get back to but it'll depend of in the O-Line can block with 5
Just My Thoughts.....
