2 questions on Ryan Switzer

  • Well, we need to sign 3-4 WR in 2013 so if Switzer was one of them then I guess that's ok. If we're talking slot I'd much prefer Bobo Wilson. But take both of them and 2 guys like Cunningham/Coley/Benjamin/Fulwood/etc.

    This is definitely partially true, but really - he is a similar player. Smaller guy, shifty, deadly in space.

    i understand they are similar players but if he was black, nobody would compare him to wes welker. i just found it amusing. im a bucs fan so i saw it with sabby piscitelli getting compared to john lynch when the only 2 things they had in common were that they were both white safities.

  • Just spoke with a West Virginia insider and here is what they had to say about Switzer:

    "Nice player, very fast, and athletic. Kind of a cocky kid, but overall a decent kid. Won't go to West Virginia. I'd say Notre Dame, Penn State and Florida State have the inside track right now - at least according to him."

    Asked why WVU wasn't going after him:

    "Anything less than a 4-star WR for WV in the '13 class would be a disappointment. Bigger fish they are going after."

    Asked what type of rating he should get:

    "Low 4-star based off film and in-person camp. He is short (5'6") and plays against maybe the worst classification in the country. Other than that, he's legit - catches the ball well, good vision, very fast. If you were to offer me Switzer or Jesus Wilson, I'd take Wilson everytime"

    Not true. Both guys were good at what they did. Piscatelli was good at being not good.

    Thanks for the info and I am not questioning you per say....

    But WV actually thinks they go after a higher caliber kid than FSU, PSU, or ND? Poor response by the WV insider imho. Maybe they want a different type of WR but it is unlikely they are going to out recruit the 3 schools mentioned....and even PSU will be back next year strong.

    I live in Huntington, WV and I went to "scout" Switzer this year after hearing that he might be in our 2013 class.

    He plays RB for his high school team, so I didn't get the best assessment of how he might project as a slot receiver. That said, I think the above assessment is pretty accurate. Switzer's initial burst is very good, although I don't think his foot speed would be especially remarkable if he were playing in FL. He's a small kid, so he didn't get far after contact, but he looked good with the ball in his hands in space. I'd be curious to see what his hands are like.

    Not sure he's saying West Virginia goes after higher caliber kids. I think he's saying WVU feels good about higher targets and something I didn't mention in the initial post was his feel that WVU coaches are tired of Switzer being pushed on them. The kid may say that he has a commitable offer right now, but I'd be surprised at this time if he was a '13 FSU signee going off what I've been told.

  • Remember lil' bit in the Spring game? I would lean towards letting him prove it at another school that he is a Welker or a Woodhead and not a glorified midget. Honestly,if you watch Penders highlights,he plays horrid competition as well,but he's a better body and a Florida kid. It's the same shiz Trickett needs to hear,stop getting cute, recruit the best combination of biggest baddest and fastest you can who know how to play football,then you can get drunk at the recruiting party.

    WVU has done quite well the past few years signing Wideouts and it really shouldn't be that difficult in the coming years in Coach Dana Holgorsens offense for the Mountaineers to haul in highly rated receivers.

    Since 2009 WVU has signed

    5 star Logan Heastie '09
    5 star Tavon Austin '09
    4 star Ivan McCartney '10
    4 star Stedman Bailey '09
    4 star Deontay McManus '12
    4 star Travares Copeland '12
    4 star Deon Long '09 '10 (prep then signed again in 2010)

    I would say its a safe assumption that WVU will get some higher quality receivers than Switzer if they are passing on him now.

  • Only evaluation you need with this kid is his hands. Good route running and hustle/desire can make up for not running a 4.3 but I would be willing to bet he is just as fast as some of the guys playing for us at WR.

  • Sounds like he may be this year's Romond Deloatch. He was mentioned a lot by FSU fans at this time last year and ended up signing with Temple.
