With the 2013 class of Florida State nearing its capacity, Noles247.com will take a daily look at some of the top 2014 targets that have emerged for the Seminoles.

  • As Gerry mentioned, Gillins will have to clean up his throwing motion some, but the kid offers a lot of athleticism and ability at the spot that makes him very appealing. I think the primary reason Florida State hasn't offered is that he could very likely commit on the spot to an offer and it is a bit early to take a quarterback in the 2014 class.

  • JMO, but if the staff doesn't feel comfortable offering him yet, then I don't agree with his 5-star ranking. A 5-star QB wants to commit to you and tell him "not yet." To me he is missing something. Maybe it is level of competition, size, or like you just said, throwing motion, but there has to be some sort of red flag, IMO.

  • Croz. Have to say I'm perplexed a bit too. If this kid has all the tools and just needs some tweaking, then git 'er done, and begin to coach him up from afar I say. I understand it may be early to offer q QB for '14 right now, but it we feel strongly enough, then bang!

Could be, that as strong as he is, Jimby and Corch Coffee have other targets they want to check out as well.

I hear ya but we have a 2015 qb so doesn't this kind of go against that theory? Is our 2015 qb that amazing? Help us connect these dots it seems like a mixed message

    He's ranked as a 4-star on 247Sports

  • What is crazy is ranking any kid a 5 star at QB this far in advance.

I have learned to trust this staff's evaluations much more than 247, Rivals, ESPN , etc.

Remember, they have had him at camp, so I believe they are still waiting to see how he develops.

Different circumstances with that one, as he comes from a pipeline school in Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast. Johnson is very good, especially for his age, but he will need to continue to grow a bit and I am sure his development will be closely monitored over the next 30 months.

On Gillins/2014, I think FSU wants to see what else is out there before they latch onto one. Gillins will wait. No feelings have been hurt by the lack of an offer after camp.
