Franklin quickly jumps on FSU offer

Plantation (Fla.) South Plantation athlete John Franklin was offered by Florida State on Wednesday. It took him just a few hours to consider his newest offer before he went ahead and accepted it.

Franklin is coming into Florida State as an athlete with a shot at quarterback to begin.

Franklin committed to the Seminoles on Thursday morning when he spoke with head coach Jimbo Fisher to make everything official. Franklin confirmed the commitment via text on Thursday morning to Noles247.com.

Franklin shared why he decided to go ahead and make the pledge.

"It feels like home," Franklin said Thursday morning. "I see myself excelling there academically and athletically."

The talented South Florida prospect said he was welcomed by Jimbo Fisher to the team.

"Coach Fisher welcomed me to the family with open arms and it just felt like the best thing for me to do," Franklin said. "I see myself being successful academically and athletically, whether I'm at quarterback or another position.

"I'm beyond excited to be a Seminole and ready to play ball," Franklin added.

He was thrilled when the offer was extended by assistant coach Eddie Gran on Wednesday.

"This is a dream come true man,” Franklin said of the offer from the Seminoles. “I'm really at a loss for words. This is the first big school to offer me and man, it feels really good."

While FSU offered as an athlete, Franklin said he will be given an opportunity at quarterback if he ends up in Tallahassee. He could play quarterback, wide receiver, or defensive back in college long-term.

"(Head) Coach (Jimbo) Fisher said that he'll give me a full shot at quarterback and we'll go from there,” Franklin said. “He said that he likes me at quarterback, but he also likes my size and my speed. I'm 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and he thinks I can play wide receiver up there as well."

Upon receiving the offer, Franklin immediately put Florida State in-front for his services.

"Florida State is by far my leader,” Franklin said on Wednesday. “I told you a long time ago that that was the place I always wanted to go. I'm really glad they finally offered."

Franklin isn’t the only prospect at South Plantation that the Seminoles are heavily involved with. Florida State has also been in hot pursuit of his good friend, four-star running back Alex Collins.

"Alex and I always wanted to go to the same school," Franklin said on Wednesday. "We are really close and that's always been something we've always wanted to do. It feels good to finally have that opportunity if we decide to go there."

One is on the board, now the Seminoles wait to see if Franklin's talented teammate will join him.

In addition to Florida State, Franklin also claimed offers from Air Force, Bowling Green, FIU, Georgia State, Navy, Samford, and Temple. Schools such as Miami and Wisconsin had also shown interest.

He is firm in his commitment to Florida State and doesn't intend to visit any other schools.

In the classroom, Franklin is an exceptional student with a 4.0 GPA and has already attained the necessary test score for qualification standards.
