They can travel in whatever manner they want to, the school just compensates them for the travel. Sometimes driving is due to a lack of good flight times and/or an interest in having the ability to come and go on their own schedule.

Would've been nice if his mom was coming indeed. However, it doesn't seem like an Artie Burns or Tunsil type situation where his mom frankly needs to sign off on wherever he goes.

They get compensated for mileage when driving and it's usually way more than fuel. Also, the school can only pay transportation for the recruit, so if they fly anyone coming with him pays their own way. If they drive, you get mileage because the recruit is in the car, and it doesn't matter who else is in the car, the mileage comp is the same.

Greek, you would definitely know more than I would in this case, but aren't they allowed to pay for the recruit plus one parent/guardian on an official visit? I just assumed that and never fully looked into it.

Interesting he considers UM a "running team". They are currently #89 nationally in rushing offense #7 in the conference (FSU is #12 nationally and #2 in conference. GT is #1).Um averages 134 per game with their best performance being 215 yards vs Bcc and 208 vs BC. We average 238 making our average better than their best game.

Greek has it right. Schools can only pay for the recruits flight.
Alex is flying to FSU and I can confirm he got on his flight this morning.
-- If his mom were to come with him, then she would either have to buy her own flight or pay for her own gas.
-- There is a way for both of their travel could be paid for, that's if they drove up together. As long as Alex is in the car, it doesn't matter how many other people are in the car, the gas is paid for. But that would bean a 14 hour round trip in the car, compared to a 2 hour roundtrip flight.

Just to clarify, once they're in Tallahassee, the school picks up hotel and food for the parent as well.
It's only transportation that they're on their own.

Slightly OT but I almost can't see him signing with Miami if he indeed visits UF for their game against S.Carolina instead of OV Miami the weekend they play us. Just a thought
