Florida State will have to wait at least one more day to seal its spot in the College World Series.
After a 90-plus minute delay from the 6 p.m., scheduled start time, game two between FSU and Stanford was officially postponed. The series is scheduled to resume Sunday at 7:05; game three, if necessary, will be played Monday at a time to be determined.
“It did not make any good sense to try to wait until 10:00, possibly, to start the game,” FSU coach Mike Martin said. “That's not good for either club. I think it was a very wise decision. It's just something, like I said, that we have to live with.”
Martin said that Mike Compton (11-2, 2.78 ERA), Saturday's scheduled starter, will pitch Sunday. Stanford will presumably stick with Brett Mooneyham (7-5, 4.26 ERA).
Tickets for Saturday night's game will be honored on Sunday.
