FSU tops No. 20 UMass

Aaron Thomas continued his hot streak, his teammates played excellent defense and the Florida State men's basketball team picked up a key, resume-building win over No. 20 Massachusetts.

Thomas, the sophomore guard, led all scorers with 18 points and the Seminoles scored the game's final six points to pull away for a 60-55 victory over the previously unbeaten Minutemen at the BB&T Center in Sunrise.

Box Score: Florida State 60, UMass 55

Thomas' two free throws with seconds to play sealed the win and gave FSU (8-3) its second triumph over a ranked opponent this season.

"It was one of those grind-out games that you hope you pull out at the end," FSU coach Leonard Hamilton told the Associated Press after the game. "We just never seemed to get into a rhythm, but at the end we did a better job of executing and made enough plays."

Montay Brandon added nine points and forwards Boris Bojanovsky and Michael Ojo combined for nine blocks for FSU, which held UMass (10-1) to 1-15 from 3-point range.

The Seminoles will break for Christmas and then host Charleston Southern on Dec. 30.
