Noles247 Staff Meeting: Recruiting

The recruiting experts at Noles247.com weigh in on five burning recruiting questions for 2013.

Josh Newberg
    • Feel free to weigh in with your responses:

      1) How is Florida State's recruiting different this year than in the prior two years under Jimbo Fisher?

      2) What three players does Florida State need to sign to ensure a top 5 recruiting class in 2013?

      3) Who is Florida State's top uncommitted target on the offensive and defensive side of the ball?

      4) You would be shocked if....?

      5) Standout CB Ronald Darby was a late addition to the 2012 class, who could be this year's big name late additon for 2013?

    • I think that whatever happens with the season will determine who comes to FSU or not. Coach Fisher did a very good job with depth and kids today want to play with a winner plus a school that will prepare them to the NFL. Besides finding talent is coach fisher thing

    • Mods,
Re Tunsil ending up in Tally, all that gets published is UGA and Bama. What do you know what we don't? (feel free to change names to protect the identity of your sources)

Edit: I read it wrong. My bad.

We are all pretty much in agreement that Florida State is running third behind Georgia and Alabama, hence Josh and I believe it would be a 'shock' if Tunsil signed with Florida State.

Tunsil likes Coach Trickett a great deal, but for some reason everything else about Florida State hasn't really clicked with him. It may simply be that he enjoys the atmosphere around the other two programs, or his connection with Coach Saban and Coach Richt, or it may just be a case where he feels the other two programs will win more championships while he is there.

That's just speculation at this point, as Tunsil is pretty quiet about the whole process.

Florida State needs to get him on campus for an official visit, have Jernigan host him and that would give them one final shot...

    • 1. Pretty simple. Proof is in the pudding. Fisher sold/implemented his "process" and after 2-3 years of re-stocking the depth charts with top to bottom talent, he needs wins to sustain the momentum on the recruiting trail. In addition, kids value a program that can prepare them for Sunday's. Recruits will take notice, and become less concerned over depth charts once FSU is pumping out early round/high profile draft choices.

      2. Assuming we hold onto Levenberry and regain a firm commitment from Stevens, to "ensure" a Top 5 Class, the 3 that "must" be in this class IMO are Matthew Thomas, Leon McQuay III, and Alex Collins. However, I think we need 2 of Za'Darius Smith, Mac Alexander, or Stacy Coley, to actually finish Top 5 unless something crazy goes down with a player like Tunsil, Carl Lawson, Tim Williams, or Priest Willis.

      3. Offensive Target: Alex Collins / Defensive Target: Za'Darius Smith (based on sheer need at the position)

      4. Since Tunsil giving FSU some burn seems to be the default answer here, I'll go with EJ Levenberry. Today, at this point in time, I'd be shocked if he actually signs his LOI with FSU in February.

      5. Not sure who the player may be, but I'll say the big name addition will be at the DE Position. If I were looking at currently committed players, it looks like Carl Lawson's name is picking up steam. If were looking at uncommitted players, I'll throw Tim Williams name in the ring as the player who jumps on board along with Za'Darius Smith.
