Camp preview: defensive backs

Lamarcus Joyner

Mark Stoops and Lamarcus Joyner

With fall camp set to begin in less than 24 hours, here's a look at the Seminoles' 2012 secondary.

    • Can everyone stop suggesting that Terrence Brooks move back to corner? He's perfect for Safety and it's his natural position.

It's not the end of the world if Karlos Williams doesn't play. It just means there are better football players ahead of him.

I agree with this, but at the same time we need the best players on the field if that means moving a safety to corner I am ok with that

    • Team sports aren't won by putting the best 11 on the field. They're won by making the best team. The team is better with Brooks at safety.

    • I really don't see the wisdom in creating a host of moving pieces in the secondary due to dismissal of one player (Reid). Brooks can play nickel in a pinch I would venture to guess but his playmaking ability and football IQ would be better served at safety. FSU has recruited well at CB. I'm very excited to see who can grab the baton out of Waisome, Darby, or perhaps even Tyler Hunter

    • IF Karlos doesn't pan out it's not the end of the world. Not every five star develops. That said, it's important to remember he's only a sophomore. It's possible the "light" doesn't even come on for another year. I remember a time when not only was it acceptable for a bigtime recruit to not contribute right away, it was expected. Now I know the RB proposal and Karlos's own admission of not being totally dedicated seem slightly ominous but there is still PLENTY of time for this kid.

Worst case scenario, we have a sensational kick returner. The team could certainly have bigger "problems".

As for Reid, I don't think I've ever been this unconcerned about losing a player of his caliber and this for a number of reasons. We have some intriguing young DBs, for one. It's clear Greg was a distraction and felt he was bigger than the team. And lastly, this front four is going to be flat-out scary, alleviating any weakness in the back seven.

    • I agree with others. Reid is gone, put Hunter-Waisome-Smith-Darby-etc there and tell them one of them will win themselves a professional career by winning the job. One of them will become a man on fire and win it.

while I agree, we might not have a choice if the other guys don't step up. Can't wait to see how this battles unfolds, fall camp/practices will definitely be interesting.

    • what if justin bright was actually fooling us the entire time and turns into chris hope?

    • We have Demps sitting around not doing anything as well. People are also sleeping on Brutus and Keelin Smith. Both looked pretty darn good in the spring, in fact Smith is ahead of Hunter right now as a corner. Give either the 6' Hunter or the 6'3 Smith a shot to see what they can do.

Is that a suggestion you inferred from the article?
