On Friday evening, Homestead (Fla.) five-star Ermon Lane announced on twitter he was decommitting from the University of Florida.
In his tweet, Lane explained his decision:
No Hard Feelings But I Just Decommitted From The University Of Florida . Not Because Dalvin Cook. No lie I love gator nation. #OneLove
This news likely clears the way for a commitment to Florida State on Signing Day.
When Dalvin Cook committed to Florida State, most thought Lane would follow. Then news came that Lane was only taking one official visit and that would be to Florida State the week before Signing Day.
Decommitting from Florida was merely a formality after stating that he would not be taking an official visit to Gainesville.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball shows that predictions on Lane's recruitment started changing from Florida to Florida State in early December. As it stands today, there are 55 total predictions. Florida State leads with 51%, followed by UF with 42% and then Miami and Alabama each own 4%. Expect Florida State's prediction lead to grow with the news that Lane is no longer committed to Florida.
After losing receiver commit Markel Pack to Ole Miss in November, Florida State rebounded with a commitment from Travis Rudolph on live TV at the Under Armour Game and now from the looks of it, Florida State will add a five-star receiver to an already stellar recruiting class.
Lane told Noles247.com after the Under Armour Game that a final decision would be announced at his school on Signing Day.
Ermon Lane is a five-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Lane is the 3rd best receiver in the country and the 26th ranked player overall.
